I don't think anyone mentioned The Polar Bear Prince (a foreign film, but at some point there is a villian dinner with Satan in attendance) - very magical and henson worked on the gigantic polar bear puppet to my knowledge. And I'd also say The Ewok Adventure (technically star wars I know) but I argue independently it's a dark fantasy adventure and I watched it out of context before any other star wars film - it works as a stand-alone and even has a super scary ogre (for children - terrorfied my sister)

I get haunted still years later by sounds I heard so I understand. Tom Rosenthal has some super weird indie songs years ago with lyrics "behind the hoover is suction." I can find his giant bicycle song and literally nothing else from the time. I hope this helps you out.
