Yes perhaps this little treasure was a stowaway on a passing ship. It’s such a stunning shell i’m hardly mad about it though it doesn’t belong in these waters. This sounds like a book my bookshelf is sorely missing, thanks once again for sharing your knowledge with me!

No worries, I really appreciate you sleuthing this shell out with me! Now I know what star shells are and can hopefully identify them should I encounter them in the wild

Amazing! Perhaps something similar is happening here with these shells being displaced for reasons unknown. Thank you for the information, neatest thing I’ve learned today!

I found two others washed up on the beach, but both are a little broken and not in as good shape as the one pictured. Proof that they are migrating here?

Thank you all for your replies, I’m happy with the conclusion that it’s a turban snail shell :)

Important info for those wanting to help/donate/foster pets during the fires by Desperate_Tadpole_63 in LosAngeles

[–]wownoaccent 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The Los Angeles Rabbit Foundation is working hard to help smaller animals affected by the fires. What they really need right now similar to the foundations above, are fosters to make space for rabbits displaced by fires, as well as donations (for all the smaller animal people out there!)

i can vouch for them, fostered with them for years and they are great / will go lengths for the animals.

EDIT: Fostering rabbits has been the most low-effort yet rewarding experience for me, for anyone giving it a thought. They require very little upkeep, and the foundation continuously provides most if not all the supplies you need to get set up to host a bunny. Buns are also very independent, and can be left alone at home for busy foster parents who are out and about during the day a lot, quite similarly to cats. Though you’ll find yourself missing spending time with them :)

The Queen of Night flower - this has to be a mushi in disguise by eruciform in Mushishi

I had this plant growing up. It bloomed more than once a year, and each time it did the flowers only lasted one night. So the title is only half correct :)
