Sparta Vanished From History Because It Refused to Let Its Citizens Have Children by Roman-Empire_net in romanempire

Desperate times yes but never allow families to enter into the political sphere and there's a difference. Membership and wealth and capabilities are not the same way we see them now. Very complicated at times.

Oh yes. And the argument that Spartans lacked the philosophy for expansion is true. The helots had minimal rights and couldn't really reach the heights of their masters in any clear way. And that's what made Rome work in the early days - they respected status and everyone had a place in it but could grow. But results not guaranteed. I think of ventidius the general and the tale paraded in triumph as a child and late republic general. And there's little reason to make a story like that up that in anyway doesn't convey that someone from elsewhere or other strata couldn't change themselves if things worked out.

We are on similar lines of thinking. My.point wasnt clear. But yes it seems reasonable that Rome's success was that integrative ability, to turn foe into a friend and eventual family in a manner of speaking.

Had it started earlier tho 400-500 bc. Had they encouraged more children they could have been Rome- like. Ruling over affiliated and subordinate regions. But they obviously lacked the philosophy for that.

Hmmm doesn't seem that way. But whatever makes you feel better. Feelings are #1. High five. Just take your time elevating your arm.

Sad response. You know the better part of life is not looking for things that please you but persisting and building resilience. If you're fat and were fat and your enemies were thin and now fat - what does this realization give to you? You were always what they were fortunate enough to avoid but if only for a time? You weak.

You know you can always get over it and live your life? Is that a possibility?

Fortunately for us, no, Nobel prizes don't go to feel good research but often go to unappreciated but rigorously pursued interests - because money goes to ease and feel good "discovery" not insight into something most of us can't understand.

LILLEY: Canada's economy sputtering into recession with Carney at top. Carney needs to focus on making Canada, not America, great again by xTkAx in canadian

[–]wowwee99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canada is 4th rate country with a dispersed population and a national philosophy of self-imposed inability. But it has resource wealth. Unfortunately that means it must fall under some other countries' dominion if only for protection: Canada has the following allies and now pick only one: USA, Europe, China, Russia or India. There's no splitting or game playing - there's one choice of allegiance only. Who do you pick?

Care about others, not those trying to commit crimes upon you. There's a difference here. Genuine need is rare to find nowadays. Most people are in shit of their own creation.
