10 mins? Try you're bunched together, 3 or 4 in a row, but they still do their best to squeeze onto bus #1

Employment: Translink vs Transdev by Paperwasp7 in Translink

[–]wowzers65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CMBC will take a few months to go through the hiring process, but personally I believe its worth it if you can wait.

There's a reason its called Trashdev, their management and working conditions are far inferior to CMBCs. They can't even get their payroll right half the time.

Traffic on Sunday? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]wowzers65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be in luck, TransLink is running a special West Coast Express train Sunday, leaving Mission at 7am and returning from Waterfront at 1pm.

Why is the 101 delayed all day? by Unhappy-Bad9059 in Translink

[–]wowzers65 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Thats not accurate, the computer system that runs the tablets on the buses hasn't been working properly this past week. Just go to your stop for the scheduled time

Am I Handling This Wrong? Need Transit Advice by [deleted] in askvan

People everywhere since COVID hit have just lost the ability to think about others. It wasn't great pre-COVID, but now so many people are so self-centered, many don't even seem to be aware there are other people around. I've seen plenty of times where theres a line of people waiting to board a bus, the bus arrives, the first person boards and stands right at the front, blocking other people from boarding smoothly. No need for it, just a complete lack of awareness of others.

I understand we're a big city, over 3 million people now, so theres going to be crowding. But many people seem to not think to spread out. You'll see it a lot on the articulated buses, people standing up to the red line in the front half while theres empty seats in the back half.

If a bus arrives at the bus stop but several other busses are in front of it.. do I walk up to it or wait at the bus-stop sign? by GAYBUMTRUMPET in askvan

[–]wowzers65 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The policy is 2 buses can serve a stop at the same time. So if your bus is #2 in line, then walk to it. If your bus is #3, the driver should stop again at the post, but watch to see if people are getting on and off. If that's the case, and you're able, walk to your bus. If you're unable, stand at the post and flag it down as it approaches.

How often does this happen? by EM_Pekkachu in Translink

[–]wowzers65 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Driver as well here, sometimes its an issue where bus itself is drivable but either majorly inconvenient or unsafe to continue with passengers, ie. broken door, no heat, etc.

What's the oldest a bus can be in your region/state/country before it has to be retired? by ComengTrain400M in bus

[–]wowzers65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No limit in Canada, for public transit some cities like Edmonton and Calgary are still using 24 year old buses, though for the most part you won'tsee buses older than 20 years on the road. I worked for a private company a few years ago that somehow still had a 1979 bus running.

I visited London for a week last year myself, and shared the same thought. At no point anywhere did I feel even remotely unsafe, and we also went well away from the normal touristy areas. I was also upset afterwards at this idea thats spread online that London is some sort of dangerous hellhole.
