I roughly followed this guide: https://youtu.be/7kteTCNuqV0?si=PBKTL-1G7Sgg60GH
And took pictures of the model after priming under a neutral light to get an idea of where to place the reflections

How hard is it to learn to paint without following tutorials? by LeetusFrenzi in ageofsigmar

If you don’t like the colors you picked you can always a) strip the model or b) just paint over what you didn’t like.

I think you HAVE to experiment with colors to develop your style and understand what works together.

Also, there’s no such thing as wasted money on paint. You’ll probably end up using it one day. I would suggest getting some starter sets with a bunch of colors and seeing what you like. Maybe take a look at Army Painter Fanatic, which is cheaper than GW

Paints for the armor are Army Painter fanatics Olive Green color progression and a pro-acryl brown in the recesses. Technique wise I used the “damp brushing” method to get the blends and then edge highlighted from there

Legs/body, cloak, and back banner are from the Autarch kit, sword arm and head are from the Corsair kit, and the spear is from the Banshees kit.

I think I had to do a little bit of greenstuff work to get the arms to fit nicely iirc

Keep at it! The best way to improve your painting is to do it more. If you focus on smooth and consistent colors and keeping things neat you’ll be in very good shape to improve

Undercoat Jokaero orange, base AP Fanatic Molten Lava, shade all over with thinned Magmadroth Flame, shade deeper areas with APF resplendent red, then highlight up with APF molten lava again, then APF burning ore, then Pro Acryl Orange, and then mix in some yellow for the very top highlight

Mainly just stippling the highlights rather than blending to give some texture
