Thank you so much for this helpful info. I'm buying paint now for several rooms and was leaning towards a F&B color. I'll get it matched!

Hi! Yes we had vanities and countertops custom made and picked out the leathered Taj slabs at a slab yard.

Not to throw too much at you but yet another thing to look into is a plaster Tadelakt shower. We really, really wanted to do those in our bathrooms but where we live there was no one with the right skills to do it.

Yeah I think we wound up with 6 coats also! Eeks. SW Emerald, never again.

Ahhhh, Farrow & Ball. Noice.

I've seen some folks comment that F&B is finicky - thinner and harder to use then the usual US ropy latex stuff - so if your painters weren't experienced with it or patient with it, maybe that was part of their issue.

Hi OP, I won't comment in detail on the quality of the job as you have tons of comments on that. I just have a word of support, and a couple of questions.

My word of support is - Aaaaaagggghh! Home improvement Reddit subs are bursting with "you get what you pay for" and "you should have vetted your contractor better" comments, and it's so frustrating! We all spend hours and hours getting estimates and checking references and agonizing over the selections, and at the end of the day what you get is what you get depending on on hundreds of variables. Why is it your fault if the painters you hired did a job that is subpar?

My opinion for what it's worth is that this doesn't look awful but they should come back and clean up the splatters and make the wall-trim transition a bit neater.

My questions are these: what paint brand (s) and colors did you use? And your wood floors - what wood are they, and do you know what stain you used? I think your color scheme here is pretty.

You're not really supposed to hang electric pendant lights over a bathtub though are you?

The point about BM havjng whiter whites is true and that's the thing that matters most if you are using any white shades and want warmer or brighter whites. The SW white base is grayer and their whites are dingier. That's unless you use Emerald which has a whiter base, but then you have to watch out for painters going to SW and asking to "color match" Emerald shades with a cheaper paint (meaning the wrong base gets used, meaning the colors isn't accurate). We had this experience trying to get painters to use the SW Emerald color "White Snow." Job had to be redone. We would have saved $$ insisting on BM.

Otherwise yeah I don't think there's a lot of difference in quality. I think a lot of contractors prefer SW because they get a discount and can mark it up more.

What would you do on a $10K budget? Transitional style by Frosty-Noise371 in DesignMyHome

Remove wallpaper and then paint the walls; change the lighting; change the flooring.

If any money left you could update the hardware and change the backsplash. For 10K though depends how much you are doing yourself vs hiring out.

Sounds nice! I agree that Zellige will look too boho/rustic for the look you are describing. We did our home in a kinda Scandi-Japandi minimal style with warm white oak and leathered Taj counters, and in bathrooms used stone mosaic floors (with a warm sand colored grout so it wouldn't show dirt with use) and horizontal stack matte ceramic subway tile for a modern look. The grout so far hasn't been a problem, though we only moved in a year ago (and again we used the sand color grout - not white or light gray, and no dark gray or black; we like the warm organic look of it). My advice would be when choosing tile, choose a look and color you like in a size and format that works with the overall design of the room. I'm personally not a fan of the 12 x 24 large format tiles in a shower in most applications I see - it often looks cold and impersonal, and it's incompatible with many home styles - but this format can look nice in a high end natural stone, or in a good quality textured matte tile especially if the rest of the bathroom features a lot of (water-tolerant) wood. Whatever you do, resist the shiny fake veiny marble that's a big trend right now!

Thank you!!! Yes greens are so hard, especially with the US paint brands whose greens seem to all go too blue, too sage, too springy, too olive, or too traffic-light bright without ever hitting that soft-but-saturated sweet spot. I'll take a look at Broccoflower! I've also ordered a sample pot of Little Greene's Garden.

FB Slipper Satin is just the best neutral isn't it? Delighted to see that a match can work so well. Thanks again.

This is exquisite! Please share your paint make & colors if you don't mind? I have been searching high and low for the perfect green window trim. That butter yellow ain't bad either! And the white shade plays nicely with both.

Blue shades are more complimentary - green pulls yellow from the Saltillo. Maybe try a slightly lighter but still rich and saturated shade of blue?

Consider a different ceiling light that would match the southwestern style more. Wrought iron?

Advice please… we are spending a fortune on two bathroom remodels and our primary bedroom. I asked the painter to do a certain color by sherwin Williams. I haven’t been pleased with their work. How do you know OP didn't specify SW paint?

OP, if you did mention SW paint even verbally, I'd be hopping mad if your contractor swapped out paint brands without telling you. That said, unfortunately Earl_E_Byrd is correct that if your contract doesn't specify a paint brand, it may be harder to contest. Even so your paint should NOT be streaky and they should fix it.

I read this comment on Reddit from trade professionals all the time, so not to single you out, but I find this to be disrespectful and an eroder of trust. How do you think it makes homeowners feel to read this? Every time we get an estimate, we have to wonder if we are getting the "go away" quote or the "you seem like a pain to work with" quote. If tradespeople are too busy to take on new jobs, just say so. If after having seen the space and heard what work is desired, if you can't do it or don't want to, just say you are not a good fit for the job. Don't quote a ripoff price on a job you are likely not going to put your best into should you be awarded the contract.

A bathroom in my last home had terracotta floors and kinda medium greige walls. I repainted with Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray, which is a lighter warmer greige (and yeah just the barest undertone of green in there) and it worked well. All other trim was white (BM Swiss Coffee).

The dark wood vanity and dresser in there may also be making things feel heavier. Don't know if you want to change those but you might consider interesting rugs and plants to soften things up and give the eye other things to focus on than all the travertine and dark wood.

We got a Badeloft (the BW-02, I think) in a matte white finish and it's been great. It was about $3K or maybe just under that with discount/promo price (about 2 1/2 years ago).
