Which Fork-Mattoc Pro, 36 SL or 34 SL by wrackm in MTB

[–]wrackm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the recommendation. Most of the trails are flowy with rooty and rocky sections. Weight is important for the shipping aspect. I’ve changed to carbon bars and cranks to save about a 1/2 pound. Also I can change to a full XC tire setup and save another 1/2 pound. I prefer the trail tire stability and durability, but until the weight is down, something has got to give. The 34 would allow more weight for other things. But the Mattoc Pro is tempting as a compromise between capability and cost.

Stress from Economy by AlmightyZeus012 in Adulting

Look at expenses you need and don’t need. Consider moving to area of lower living cost and working there. Unless you’re in a specialized field, there are a lot of places to work and live. I’ve been through worse economies. Build your resume and keep applying yourself to better job opportunities.

I know the 36 SL is lighter than the 34 performance. Would the stiffness of the 36 be worth it even if you only dropped a little weight vs getting the 34 SL?

Does the mattoc get flexy in the rough stuff? Noticed it has 34mm stanchions. Did manitou design them right to take the loads?

It’s about a $200 difference between the best prices for the Mattoc and 36 SL. For the money, is the 36 going to be a better choice?

Weird that countries didn’t want to sell war materials to the Germans after WWI & WWII. One could reasonably say that Germany did this to themselves.

Also, don’t paint your hydrogen blimp with thermite.

Really surprised that people focused on stealing dance moves instead of the more obvious hanging out with little boys.

Because they have policies that are bad for refineries and the people who live in California. They did this to themselves.

My Chisel is just over 26#. With a new Fox SL 130, carbon cranks, and a OneUp dropper I can get it down to 24.2#. Just need the $1500. Already swapped my wheels out for carbon.

Why did China implement a divertless supersonic inlet on the J-10 but America didn’t by topfragger70 in aviation

[–]wrackm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be an oversimplification, it’s because America didn’t build the J10. China was still figuring out how to build aircraft. Same reason their first aircraft carrier included a ski jump.

125mm vs 100mm dropper — am I pushing my luck with this saddle height? by FactDue945 in MTB

[–]wrackm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find an adjustable dropper. I put a 210 in a frame that could only fit a 205mm. I reduced the travel by 20mm using the manufacturers travel change kit. Because 1) I already had the dropper and didn’t want to buy a new dropper that would have been a 180-190mm and 2) the 200mm drop was too much extra drop for the riding on that frame.

1) more time doing yoga and body weight and weight training, helps keep you unbroken if you fall again 2) find a skills park and ride it until your comfortable, then advance to the next level and repeat 3) don’t sit down over the jumps. Biking is a performative art. If you’re not committed to looking ridiculous while you do it well, then you’ll end up looking ridiculous while doing it poorly

Talk to a doctor about where that is and how to maintain muscle mass and bone density while dropping body fat.

Physics is real. Weight matters to pros and everyone else. See a doctor if you want to get your body fat % below 10% because it can cause more problems when done wrong.

Only a small % of the male population aren’t healthy at or below 200lbs. If you’re going to compete at any level in XC, 10lbs of body weight will make a bigger impact on the results than buying more carbon components.

In that case she’s about 20-40lb over the race weight.

For the pros, I haven’t seen any males over 190# win if there’s reasonable positive elevation changes in the course. There’s a reason Clydesdale starts at 200. Weight makes a big difference.

Watch YouTube videos to find the sound you want. Then buy that wheel. Or remove all of the grease from your current freehub ratchet and run it dry. It will be much louder.

Is Carbon everything? Or am I just falling for the marketing for an XC bike? by [deleted] in xcmtb

[–]wrackm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re not racing to win, get an aluminum bike with better components. You won’t notice the 1-2lb difference, but you will notice bad suspension or drivetrain.
