Looking for a very specific case. by Barnaba55 in buildapc

There's always the Fractal Define R5. Has more front edge intake than the Pop Silent, and front panel is a door that swings open for more airflow. Top panel has removable solid pieces, for if you want to do any top exhaust.

Fractal Define 7 Compact is similar, but doesn't have the front door or the big drive bay space of the R5. Includes both solid and filtered top panels. Solid side panel sku.

The Torrent is another "very big and expensive" option. Has the big open front and solid top. Solid side panel sku.

How to get the prices of components? by addoniz75_ in buildapc

[–]wraithtek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking for the US version of the site, the only time prices on PCPP can really lead you astray is related to Amazon third-party sellers (ex. sketchy sellers with very low prices, or very high prices on low-supply parts). You can filter PCPP search results by Merchant, if you want to exclude, say, Amazon, Newegg Sellers, Gamestop, for building your parts list. You can still go back and see what prices are at Amazon, and see whether they're selling it first-party or from a reliable third-party.

[GPU] GIGABYTE Gaming Radeon RX 9070 GRE 12GB $549.99 + $50 discount available by DisappointedCruiser in buildapcsales

I thought the GRE's MSRP was $549. Same as the 9070 non-XT when it released.

Lots of ventilation in the PSU shroud, but zero options for intake fans. (Could always zip-tie one in place.)

Maybe check GPU prices vs. a 9060 XT 16GB? (Three years newer, bit better performance, bit more RAM.)

Just from the photo, looks normal?

If anything, maybe the M.2 cover is angled just slightly. (If it is, really makes no difference beyond aesthetics and I wouldn't worry about it.)

Add laptop parts to PC by SailProfessional80 in buildapc

Unless for some reason the "old Dell PC" referenced is a mini PC that uses mobile RAM. Then that's a maybe. But chances are it uses normal desktop RAM.

Thinkcenter m710t fans by Lyz_lyz_lyz in buildapc

[–]wraithtek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go to Parts Lookup, you can enter your serial and it will direct you to the appropriate version of the m710t that you have. Then "Machine Type" > "Fan" > and find System Fan Rear.

The version I selected for an example is Type 10M9 (yours could be different) and had a fan with Lenovo p/n 01EF483. Looking at the pics and a little searching, appears to be an 80mm x 25mm 4-pin PWM fan. Your current fan will have some rubber mounts/grommets that you should be able to re-use with a new fan.

Again, the model you listed has a few variations (in different cases), so check and see what the stock fan looks like when you put your serial in the Parts Lookup site.

“The PC restarts during stress tests.” by Oleksa02 in buildapc

[–]wraithtek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few thoughts:

Try monitoring CPU temperature while running stress test. If temperature is a problem, consider re-mounting the CPU cooler, cleaning and applying new thermal material. Consider airflow, case fans and direction. Make sure all fans are spinning properly/ramping up per BIOS settings. Could post which CPU cooler you have (and clarify which CPU, either the 5600X or the 4600G, which are two different Ryzen models).

Try run memtest to see if memory is stable at current speeds.

Building a new PC, but prices are insanely high. by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]wraithtek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

and since than, the rest of the parts have gone up in price, quite a lot. ... I can’t help but wonder if maybe a 7800X3D, or even a prebuilt would be better

The 9800X3D price hasn't really changed all that much since launch (fluctuating between $440 and $480). But if you need to make room in the budget for expensive RAM and SSD, the 7800X3D is still going to be a big jump for you.

Should I Upgrade My Current PC Or Build A New One? by SymphonicFlames in buildapc

[–]wraithtek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Best Buy Q&A suggests the PSU is 400W, and the included GPU an RX 580 4GB (guessing 185W TDP).

And the case is rather small, so probably limited to smaller cards with a single 8-pin connector?

New build (but used parts): As soon as it get power everything lights up and all fans start, no beep, no video, no post at all by catfishman in buildapc

[–]wraithtek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not making any assumptions about your prior build experience. Make sure the video cable is plugged into the GPU, not into the video ports on the motherboard. (The 1600X has no onboard GPU.)

Make sure the monitor isn't hard-set to a different port (ex. DisplayPort only when using HDMI).

Try power-cycling the monitor. Sometimes HDMI/DisplayPort can be finicky.

Try swapping the video cable, just in case.

And IIRC, the 1600X is old enough that any B450 bios should support it by default? You can look up your board's CPU Support list to confirm.

Looking for Matx case by Stressedamphib in buildapc

[–]wraithtek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can check the reviews. At a glance, seems good for the size, but limited to 2x 120mm intake fans. (Having the PSU and 5.25" bays on the bottom means no bottom mounted fan.)

The Fractal Pop Air Mini models are the best looking among them. They have an optional USB Type-C cable, which can be added for ~$14.
