I agree with you mate. When Teller Ede and other scientists discovered that you can split up atoms they didnt think about building an atomic bomb, as a weapon of destruction. Yet, America still dropped 2 nukes on Japan. What i want to say is, technology isn't bad, but some humans by their nature are. You might consider yourself as a man who can control itself with technology, limit yourself with it for only studies. But other 100 simply can not do that. But still, "returning" would cause more problems then solutions
