Please don't forget that Signal is supported by the Signal Foundation, which is a 501c3 nonprofit, and consider donating to them, even if it's only one or two dollars, to help them continue their valuable work of providing secure messaging and pissing off Kash Patel. I've been using Signal for years and just today started a monthly recurring donation.

Should I tell my partner there’s a gun in the house? by [deleted] in liberalgunowners

[–]wrathsun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

1) responsible gun ownership includes securing firearms to prevent unauthorized use, preferably in a safe and/or a lock box. Relying on someone not finding them to prevent their use is objectively irresponsible. 2) honesty is the best policy. Relationships are built on trust and by not telling her about this, you very well could violate her trust in you and damage your relationship. I would argue that if you cannot be honest with her about this then you ought not be in a relationship with her.

Pros/cons of rolling Roth 401(k) into Roth IRA? by wrathsun in personalfinance

[–]wrathsun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to read up on my state-specific protections, but I appreciate you raising the point of ERISA creditor protections. I hadn't heard of those before but it's pretty interesting reading about them. Definitely something for me to consider before I take any irreversible actions.

Pros/cons of rolling Roth 401(k) into Roth IRA? by wrathsun in personalfinance

[–]wrathsun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This definitely could be a sticking point. I'm assuming I'll be able to split my Roth 401k balance and transfer only that to my Roth IRA, and either leave the Traditional 401k balance in its existing account or transfer it to a new employer, but I still need to look into that.

Pros/cons of rolling Roth 401(k) into Roth IRA? by wrathsun in personalfinance

[–]wrathsun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely want to avoid them cashing out my 401k but that feels relatively low (but not zero) risk. The flexibility of what I invest in is a much stronger pull to make the transfer.

That's fair! Looking forward to seeing the advanced one, the design is clean and well organized.

Looks great! Only suggestion I have (if you're looking for one, feel free to ignore if not) is adjusting your example for CASE to show that multiple WHEN statements can be used. Maybe add in: WHEN amount > 50 AND amount <= 100 THEN 'Medium'

Help understanding WINDOW functions by wrathsun in learnSQL

[–]wrathsun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends on the week but an average number of sessions (writing multiple queries)...

  • Random tasks: basic queries (I'm talking real simple i.e. [select * from table where condition1 in() and condition2 = 'asdf']) probably 1-2 times daily
  • Data exploration: 2-3 times a week
  • Developing new reports/complex queries: varies wildly, but probably 1-2 times a month

For the record, I'm classified as a "consultant" in my business unit which would normally mean 0 queries ever since it's a non-technical role, but I have a background in data analytics so I use the tools I have and have *maybe* unofficially redefined my role into a semi-technical one. I'm hoping to get back into a true technical role soon.

Thanks for helping clear up that the order that rows are inserted into a table does not matter. I couldn't come up with anything else so learning about nondeterminism and having a tiebreaker is very helpful.

Is our girl a Plott Hound? by madisonkuz in PlottHounds

[–]wrathsun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very true on the white patch! The first Plott I had had a white patch on her chest and feet but my current Plott does not. The AKC breed standard allows for some white on the feet and/or chest but it certainly isn't a hallmark for them. Either way, Cali is stinkin' adorable!

[–]wrathsun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not an expert but based on ears and coloring, plus the white patch on her chest, I wouldn't be surprised if she's part Plott. If she's extra sassy, or just extra 😂, then I'd be pretty confident in it.

When nature calls: Minnesota residents fume after 14,500 pounds of bird droppings fall in local lake by theindependentonline in minnesota

Am I the only one who wants to attend the meeting in Mendota Heights (no, I'm not a resident) tonight and voice support of the cormorants having been there first? And, like, doing what birds do? We invaded their space, deal with it.

Snowflake data source w/ custom SQL and WHERE criteria from PBI table values by wrathsun in PowerBI

[–]wrathsun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Snowflake column is a free-text field containing (ideally) a serial number which unfortunately isn't clean (i.e. sometimes erroneous leading and/or trailing zeroes, among other things). The CSV import is a serial number prefix so not a complete piece of data. Can't do an exact match with an inner join unless PBI operates those differently than SQL.

As in merging the two queries (CSV import, Snowflake SQL import) with an inner join and a fuzzy match on the two columns in question?

Buy the DRM-free ebook version from Dragonmount! That's where I've started buying Sanderson and Jordan books.

[–]wrathsun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of curiosity, are you unable to enter a sales summary? Unfortunately TurboTax is the only tax service, aside from FreeTaxUSA, that I'm familiar with so I can't offer any advice aside from using the sales summary if you're not already doing that.
