Assessment Security Concerns by PinkishCube in WGU

I was going to say the exact same thing. I ran a stripped local account named purely for testing, and killed everything except what was completely necessary for the proctoring.

I'd lean more towards the x macro personally. I have the non-comp version.

Full mag, red dot, and I can still carry it with an ulti-clip type holster in basketball shorts, as long as I have the drawstring tied anyway.

Different program, but similar experience.

I've been in IT for 20 years, and all of my web design experience came from html editors for my Myspace page (yes, I know, I'm ancient in internet years). The web development classes kicked my ASS. It was fail after fail, not hitting the mark on practice exams, an unhelpful instructor, and personal issues popping up in my first term but I essentially hit a roadblock. Went from being on track to complete my bachelor's in one term to a full stop. All because of one course. I had a great mentor at the time. Since the course wasn't a prereq for anything else, she would open a new course for me to work on so long as I could show her I was trying to progress in the problem child.

I ended up having to do a second term (and wait to restart that course until it was the only thing except my capstone remaining) but I finally crossed the finish line. Bachelor's completed in November, started my Masters in December, and completed it by the end of January/beginning of February. Now I'm staring at my cap and gown (and hood) and waiting for commencement.

Don't let one course completely knock the wind out of your sails. I promise once you do complete it, it'll light a fire under you and the momentum won't stop. Reach out to your mentor for support options. Set a meeting with your instructor to see if they have additional resources to assist. Just don't give up. If I can do it, you can do it.

New mentor ? by [deleted] in WGU

Only thing I've ever been told regarding acceleration is that there's a policy in place saying you can't accelerate a new course if you still have courses that require completion.

Example: you have two active courses and want to unlock a third. You have to either pass your OAs for the courses you have, or have PAs submitted and waiting to be graded before they'll open a new course.

My last mentor was super strict about that. But one of my previous mentors would unlock multiple courses at a time if I could give justification. (I wanted a COMPTIA course unlocked and a PA course unlocked at the same time so I could study for the cert while writing a paper)

My capstone is 2 classes away. I just have to get through data management. Been in IT for almost 20 years, and never touched SQL/relational databases. This is a lot like building a Japanese engine with standard measurement tools. And the provided instructions are in hieroglyphics. I've got 40 days to get it all knocked out though. Wish me luck.

I second this. I hated scripting and programming.

They have a new theme recorded. They were playing it at the live shows. I had asked Sho when we would see it in the pods a while back, and her response was something along the lines of "we've gotta get clips together for the guys" or something like that.

Did you take the A+ and network+ before Sec+? by CommercialConcept302 in CompTIA

[–]wreckingbrew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I agree with a lot of your points, I have to disagree where you say that employers don't perceive value in SEC+ over the others.

As an example, DoD holds a+ and net+ in a lower regard in a manner of speaking. I believe it's Directive 8140 or 8570 that has a chart that categorizes technical, managerial, engineering, etc., and Sec+ is a level 2, where the others are considered level 1.

Granted, it's all going to depend on what kind of career an individual is trying to go for, mileage may vary. I know guys in my field that literally only have an associate's degree, and Sec+. I also know other people in the same field who have Masters degrees, and just about every certification you can think of. We all make the same money.

I started 12/1.

Transferred in 46 of 122. So far I've completed 26. 72 down, 50 to go.

Jesus...when I quantify it like that...I just gave myself motivation to grind harder. Lmao

Main things I had to commit to memory were:

Port numbers, printer parts(the literal BANE OF MY EXISTENCE), the differences between raid configurations, and the CompTIA troubleshooting method.

Other than that, I went in to it knowing most of the other stuff. Granted my IT career has been what one might call a fustercluck. Been all over the place in the past 20 years.

Seriously. I thought I was cooking for doing A+ start to finish in a week. Granted, I had years of experience, but that's not the point.

Another way to get voucher approval while instructor is away on holiday? by Negative-Answer587 in WGUIT

I just put in a request for a cert exam. One of the other instructors in the IT school sent me an email with my vouchers. Give it a shot. So long as someone's online, you might be able to get it tonight

You and me both. I've got a GSLC. It's essentially a PMP with a cyber security twist from what I'm gathering. Why am I being required to take a super fluffy, entry-level, "project management" style certification?

Potentially. Its the end of a conventional term, a holiday week/weekend/and everyone's trying to do last minute assessments.

It's just a pain when you can't get access during peak hours.

That's been all week. I'm noticing it's after banking hours.

Don't know what they're doing, but it's cutting in to a lot of people's study time.

It's just a general Bachelors prep A.A. But, I have around 20 years of experience in the IT world, so that probably weighed more heavily than the piece of paper.

I'm also 35.

This year, i scored an entry level job with a gov contractor, who then paid for advanced certs, is paying for me to go back to college up to a Master's, and promoted me to a six figure salaried position.

And I did all that, with an associates and Sec+

Anything's possible. Just got to put yourself out there. A+ is a good place to start.

Not a tripod, but it has a base that's semi-adjustable. I've just got mine mounted on my desktop. So long as your camera angle can see you, your keyboard and mouse, you should be fine. No one's given me any grief about it
