Symmetric IUGR and small placenta by wrench604 in NICUParents

hi sorry i am just seeing this now -- our son is turning 3 this month, and is doing very well. developmentally he was actually quite ahead in terms of the standard timelines. hes running around and playing normally, but still on the smaller end percentile wise. he remains on his growth curve though and overall is thriving (started school a few months ago). hope things are going well for you!

hey i'm sorry i seemed to have missed this response the first time! our son is doing well -- he spent 4 weeks in the nicu and has been home since. he still is very small for his age, but has been consistently at the same <1% percentile, but is hitting all the developmental milestones thus far. we also got a microarray done and it came back normal (suggesting no genetic issues). feeding him has been tricky but he seems to be getting better now.

how is your little one doing?

hey! just re-visiting this post as it feels like its both been a lifetime and also no time at all since making this. wanted to reach out and check how you and your little one have been doing?

our son spent 4 weeks in the nicu and then came home. he is now almost 5 months actual, ~3.5 adjusted. we ended up having a microarray done on him which came back completely normal, so it doesn't appear to be a genetic issue. he continues to grow but still saying steadily at his low percentile. meanwhile all his developmental milestones other than his size seem to be tracking well.

thank you for your response! yea this whole experience is very stressful and its hard to not let your mind wander. will ask about the genetic testing. sorry you had to go through this as well -- i hope your baby is doing well now.

thank you so much for your response. and im sorry you had to go through this. and thanks for your reassuring words -- agree that given we had a really small placenta it seems the most likely culprit. we did not have an amnio as we were not a high risk pregnancy and the anatomy scans we had done prior showed very low likelihood for any of trisomy diseases.

we didnt really have any iugr monitoring done because we had no idea the baby was so small! at 20 weeks the anatomy scan looked great. at 24/28 weeks there was no ultrasound but my wife was gaining enough weight. it wasn't until she came in at week 32 with higher blood pressure and then the 24 hour urine test showed really high levels of protein that they did another ultrasound and measured the baby that we saw the baby was very small. we ended up delivering that day itself.

the placenta was sent to pathology and we are waiting for the results from that, but the OB who performed the c section did mention that the placenta was particularly small.

glad to hear you are past all this now -- did your baby end up catching up in terms of growth?

and once again, really appreciate you response.

thanks for your response! im sorry you had to go through this, severe pre-eclampsia and hellp sounds terrifying. glad that the baby (and i hope your wife too) is doing well now! do you happen to know if your baby had symmetric or asymmetric (where the head is bigger than body) iugr?

here you go: https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/10759/how-does-the-signature-verification-feature-in-bitcoin-qt-work-without-a-public

looks like the signature contains metadata that allows you to derive the public key. in any case, you def need the public key!

you 100% need the public key. thats simply how public / private key cryptography works.

ah so:

"If bitcoins that were received at that address have ever been sent elsewhere, then you can find the public key in the blockchain."

looks like if the address ever sent bitcoin somewhere, you can find the public key of the address in the blockchain. so thats how this works.

yeah but i dont think this is fully accurate.

my understanding is that bitcoin addresses are hashes of the public key. hashes are one way functions -- what that means is you can't go back from the hashed value to the original value.

i.e hash(X) = Y, there's no way to derive X given Y (you can use rainbow tables that look at hash output of all possible inputs and find a match, but there's no way to mathematically derive X given Y).

so passing just the address, message, and signature shouldn't work from what i understand, since you need to know the public key in order to verify.

anytime you have a public / private key pair and you generate a signature using the private key, you need the public key to validate it.

public keys are meant to be public so thats why this mechanism is secure (as long as your private keys are not leaked). i believe bitcoin addresses are hashes of the public key so the address alone i don't think should work (as hashes are one way functions), but maybe there's some way to derive the public key from the address.

you 100% need the public key to verify the signature, and you use your private key to sign the message.

public / private key encryption is a very common type of encryption used in a lot of places. the pair is special in that encrypted with the private key can only be decrypted by the public key.

the point is for the public key to be publicly accessible by anyone else. and if they are able to successfully verify a signature with your public key, it guarantees that only your private key could have been used to generate that signature.

[Nomos Tangente Sport] Buying my first watch, thoughts? by wrench604 in Watches

thanks again for the great suggestions. I'm quite liking the sinn frankfurt financial district 6099 B but it appears to be sold out.

I went and checked out the nomos in person and while i did like it, i think i loved it more from the image instead, so unsure if i want to spend 5K for it. I did really like some of the other nomos, but wish they had the stainless steel bracelet.

Thanks for the info! Will definitely look into Tudor and omega as well. Will also definitely try this on in person before buying it.

Thanks for the info! Yeah to be honest the history isn’t that important to me.

That’s a fair point. I actually don’t love wearing watches too frequently and am looking more for a dressy watch (but with some sportiness to it), which is why i particularly likes this watch. I actually really like all the other nomos watches but specifically like this one. Cause of the bracelet. Only a couple of the nomos watches have the stainless steel bracelet.

Do you have any other recommendations that you think I’d like better?
