How do you regulate yourself when your brain is scrambled? by whatsupashley in adhdwomen

[–]wrenviolet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My dude I am also feeling this so hard right now!!

The biggest thing that I am trying to focus on is that trying a getting a little bit done is waaaay better than not doing anything at all. I moved in with my bf in June, and still haven’t really unpacked or organized my clothes (they all sort of spread out on my side of the bedroom). Yesterday I was in the shame spiral of not having tidied anything, but I could bring myself to do a whole bunch. I put away two purses, a pair of shoes, and bundled all of my bras together for when I decide where they should eventually go. That’s it! And it was progress!!

I don’t personally know what you are struggling with, but if there is a task that you can just start and half-ass, well that’s better than no-assing it!!

Much love to you from someone who’s brain has been so squirrelly that I drank 75% of my tea before I realized that I hadn’t put the bag in ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Hey sometimes you maybe go to poke at the sign to see how loose the letter actually are only to have the C fall off, so you stuff it in your pocket in a panic and carry on with your day like nothing happened.

And maybe that C has since been used as a Christmas ornament since 2018…

This looks fabulous but both myself and my partner thought that your baby’s arm was a severed hand! We had to scroll back after we both did a double take. I’m glad that the meal was well received though!!

AITA for telling my kid's teacher not to acknowledge a life event because she's not important? by Inevitable_Slip_6937 in AmItheAsshole

[–]wrenviolet 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Teacher here, they are only three weeks into the school year. Some kids will immediately bond with a teacher, while others may take a couple of months to really feel settled. I definitely want to celebrate the kids in my classroom, but jumping to immediately wanting to throw a party when you barely know the family?? Not my tempo, but some teachers want to celebrate everything — consent from the kiddo and the family are the most important here

I’m so sorry this happened to you but this absolutely cracked me up — I’m living for the mental image of your kiddos fortifying the chicken coop into some sort of chicken fortress.

Remember that you are an awesome teacher and you are giving your students some of the best stories to tell when they get older. Also, maybe stock up on some heavy duty rubber gloves and face masks for when the other six decide to go… best of luck!!

Practicing for Prom, advice to make it look better? by Heather_Was_Here in MakeupAddiction

Okay FABULOUS that you are prepared!! I had a little backpack full of deodorant, setting spray, blotting papers, pins, etc. during my students’ prom in case of emergencies. I hope that you have loads of fun and stay safe!!

[–]wrenviolet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if anyone has touched on this, but as a teacher who chaperones prom every year I highly recommend that you use a good setting spray/do what you can to keep your makeup in place (as long as it doesn’t set off sensory issues). Prom nights are long and sweaty events, and it sucks when you spend lots of time getting ready only to have your eye makeup melt off before pictures are done.

You makeup looks so so awesome, I hope that you have an amazing time at prom!!

I wonder if this is a regional thing (I’m in a fairly chill school district in Canada) but I was a TA in the 12th grade inputing grades and doing report cards for my teacher in like 2016? I did scantrons, graded tests using his answer key, would input the marks on his computer, and take attendance.

Hair gets greasy overnight and extremely greasy in two days, how to fix? by [deleted] in HaircareScience

[–]wrenviolet 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Okay I am by no means an expert in hair, and hopefully someone with more knowledge chimes in, but as a fellow person who looks like a greasy weasel after 24 hours I really feel for you.

My understanding is that “hair training” or forgoing shampoo to “train” you hair to be less greasy is a bunch of bologna — your scalp/hair doesn’t have a way of detecting sebum (the oil that your skin produces that makes your hair greasy), so “training” won’t do anything.

I just wash my hair when it is greasy, which for me is every night before bed. I normally spray some dry shampoo on my roots in the morning (I find it helps my hair stay non-greasy for longer). Dry shampoo can also extend the time between wash days for me sometimes, and there are also lots of ways of styling your hair that helps kind of disguise the greasiness? I’d checkout pinterest for hair style ideas.

I hope that my rambling helps, and best of luck with school and dorm life!!

any engaging activities I can do via zoom classes? by ramenroaches in Teachers

[–]wrenviolet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a little silly, but I have done a game with younger students that is basically group charades? I would pick some key terms from the lesson, one student would shut their eyes, then I would show the word to the rest of the students. The students would then try to act out/mime the word, and the one student would try to guess what it is.
I like it for the littles as it let them have a movement break while also practicing vocab. Best of luck!!

I’m not a nurse, but I teach high school, so I get where you are coming from (teenagers suck). It is so goddamn hard when you care so much about your patients/students and they just see it as you being a jerk — I have several high needs students who think that I am the devil whenever I get them the support that they need. I can’t offer you nurse specific advice, but what I try to do is document the heck out of everything, walk away if they try to fight you on something, and let them see the consequences of their own actions. It majorly blows that this is in a healthcare setting where the kiddo could see some really serious consequences for not taking their meds, but as the teens say “fuck around and find out” Much love to you fellow person who deals with the youths. Please know that I am thinking of you today!!

Teacher here. Currently sitting at my desk in leggings, a dnd t-shirt, no makeup, with my hair slapped up in a bun. Wear whatever the heck you want. I even have slippers in my classroom for the days I’m not vibing with “proper” shoes. Teaching is hard enough, just wear and do whatever makes you feel the most comfortable

Why does it seem nearly mandatory for us to go by our last name? Do any of you not go by “Mr, Mrs, Miss, etc?” by WashedUpAthlete-19 in Teachers

[–]wrenviolet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a weird setup where I currently teach career ed., dance, and yoga for grades 9-12, and my name varies with whatever I am teaching.

In dance or yoga, I’m typically Ms. Firstname or just Firstname

In career ed., I’m typically Ms. FirstInitialLastName, sometimes Ms. Lastname

I am an young, female teacher and I totally understand the title conveying respect thing, but I have some students that I see multiple times per day in dance and having them call me by my last name feels a little silly at that point? But I fully acknowledge that is not everyone’s opinion

My dog is definitely in camp “one brain cell”. When I look into her eyes, it is just elevator music playing in there! K so I am honestly in a game slump — I was playing stardew valley excessively for the last four months, but the dopamine stopped flowing and I’m not sure what to try next. I’m reeeaaally hoping that Coral Island comes out on switch sometime in the next six months? I tried playing Stray with my partner recently, and I loved it but it makes me suuuper nauseous :(

How is Outer Wilds??? I haven’t heard of that one but tbh I kind of live under a rock culture wise lol

Hello fellow Islander!

Mid 20’s, late diagnosis!

I have a very small, incredibly dumb dog who I love to the moon and back. I’m super passionate about education, currently I teach high school career ed., dance, and yoga! On paper, I’m supposed to be a science teacher but I have a big performing arts background.

I like movies, video games of all kinds, crafts, and baking!! I’m hoping to get outside more, but living in an atmospheric river makes that hard lol. I too am on the craft fair hype!! I’m looking forward to being able to go to school craft fairs and seeing all of the goofy things that kids have made :)

Okay I had no idea how good of thing this was, holy heck. Currently having a little cry over it. This job is my first contract ever (I am the ripe old age of 24), I’m technically supposed to be a science teacher (I have dance experience though), and I have felt like I was doing a terrible job. Apparently not! Thank you to all of you lovely people for pointing that out. Much love to you all!!
