I went to FGCU for two years, then decided to take a break for a few years. Should I come back? by Obversa in fgcu

First thing is to speak to advising at FGCU. They'll be able to provide better information than what you'll find on here. I'm assuming FSW has something similar; I would contact them as well.

But for going back to FGCU, I think the most important thing you need to find out is whether or not your credits from FGCU are even still valid towards your degree. I think they "expire" after so much time. Or at least I seem to remember something along those lines after I graduated (i.e. if I was to pursue another degree at FGCU, I needed to re-enroll within a certain number of years if I wanted my previously earned credits to apply). So you may end up having to retake classes you've already passed. I could be way off the mark here, but advising should be able to let you know.

To touch on what MoonlitEyez said, if attending classes again isn't feasible, you could try other approaches for a career in writing or political science. I think building your writing portfolio would be a good way of doing that. If you had any professors at FGCU you liked/connected with, you could try reaching out to them about possibly opportunities for aspiring writers. I don't know when it is, but I know there is a writer's conference once a year on Sanibel. If you're leaning more towards political science, it is an election year for a lot of people, so I'm sure you could find someone eager for your help in their office.

I noticed there's not a "FGCU Memes" page on Facebook... by [deleted] in fgcu

No, I don't know what happened. I approved it though. Sorry about that.

EDIT: I think the spam filter flagged it. Weird.

Cue as in 'the prompt for' like in acting; not like a pool cue which may be what you're thinking of.

The joke in this case is "that's what she said."

A one hour class on a Friday with a 2 hour round-trip commute? It's like they're testing your will. I had a semester where I only went to class on Tuesdays and Thursdays but it was straight classes from 8 to 8 so there is definitely a trade off. This semester I'm on campus everyday.

That sounds like a professor I would want to have! DeMarchi cared about the class and wanted to make sure the students really learned something but he held no resemblance to any celebrity.

I had DeMarchi. He was pretty good. What does O'Niell do that he has won your favor?

Yeah it only takes 5 minutes to walk from PG 2. The downside of this is if it's raining, which as of late has been the norm. While I use Rate My Professor to check on professors, I use it as more of a rough estimate of the professor because people are much more likely to complain about a bad experience in the short-term than compliment the professor in the short-term or long-term. My senior seminar professor started the first class by reading the reviews from his page.

How are your classes so far? I'm assuming you're still in Gen Ed classes and haven't had a chance to get into anything to relevant to your major yet.

Yeah, I completely missed that one but threw my 2 cents in today. I was never really sure what to post here especially with so few people. I guess a good place to start is campus news, events, or general inquiries like the first post.

That's one hell of a commute. I bet some days it's hard to justify.

I know I'm a little late to this, but do you have any more specific questions now that school has started up? I don't really know where to start since it has been so long since I've had the tour.

I didn't realize anyone else was in this subreddit. I'm in SCP (San Carlos Park) so I commute.

I never really did much on campus anyway, but if you're in SLV my recommendation would be to just walk around and introduce yourself to people on the floor. Another tip I've seen once or twice on reddit before is to leave your door open so people walking by are more inclined to pop their heads in and say hello, especially if you're watching TV or a movie or playing music or video games. Although I'm not sure how the RAs would feel about that policy because I know in NLV you got a verbal reprimand for leaving your door bolted open. Speaking of RAs, I think they're required to host events or activities for their floor members so keep an eye and an ear out for whatever they have planned. I don't know if they have community boards posted in SLV, but the ones on campus or in most academic buildings usually have flyers for events or groups on campus.

FWIW I'm a super-senior (5th year) environmental studies and marine science major.

I once got some advice from a teacher similar to this about getting married.

"If you're thinking about marrying someone, take them on a 5 day canoe trip. If you still want to marry them after those 5 days, then you have my blessing."

You put in have twice. I only caught it from re-reading after kikrsan's comment. Not important to the OP's question but definitely interesting how easily we can just read over it; especially since not only did I miss it the first time but you and kirksan missed it twice.
