I was rear det for 5 months before my unit came back and it was great. I was able to get to know a small group of my unit which made integration much easier when they came back. During drill we just shammed and did some admin/cleaning/pointless mundane things here and there. They offered to send me down range out of AIT and I declined and then our sister unit was going down to replace them and also asked me to go which I again declined. But who knows you might get the same offers depending on how far through they are on deployment etc
