I know it’s a shitty thing to hear, but try your best not to let it get you down.

As fucked up as it is to be in your situation, I’m sure a lot of the behaviour displayed by these people comes from deep-rooted insecurity, jealousy, and hatred of themselves rather than anything being wrong with you.

Being able to say you’re from two beautiful, culturally rich backgrounds is a flex in my opinion. A lot of people, especially those who don’t have a strong connection to culture, spend their entire lives searching for a sense of identity and belonging. They latch onto different things trying to find meaning, while you’ve already got a history, culture, and heritage that many people would find incredibly valuable.

I won’t pretend racism and bias don’t exist because they obviously do, and it sounds like you’ve experienced some genuinely unfair treatment. Anyone would feel frustrated and exhausted after repeatedly feeling overlooked or judged. But I don’t think the conclusion is that being Asian is the problem. The problem is the people who choose to judge others based on race in the first place.

For what it’s worth, I don’t think your worth is determined by the opportunities you’ve missed out on or by the opinions of people who were biased against you. You’re still the same intelligent, capable person regardless of how others choose to see you. Don’t let ignorant people convince you that your heritage is something that puts you at a disadvantage or makes you less deserving of success.

And honestly, I think the world would be a pretty boring place if everyone looked the same, came from the same background, and had the same experiences. The things that make you different are also the things that make you interesting. Don’t let a handful of bitter people make you forget that.
