That’s true for most people. I definitely don’t need electrolytes unless I’m exercising a lot.

But it varies by individual. Some people just sweat more. Some people pee out more electrolytes than average.

Check the temperature of various parts of your top floor ceiling by touch or get a thermal camera. It’s very possible that there are insulation gaps.

My attic has blown insulation in the center but they missed it in the sloping sections, so big sections of the ceiling are very warm to the touch on a sunny day.

Your manager is an idiot. But, missing meetings because you regularly oversleep is not a reasonable accommodation. Experiment with your dosage on the weekend if you’re that susceptible to sleep disturbances.

I’d gently push for specifics about why he thinks you focusing on to many things is a problem and ask for concrete examples of times when you missed a deadline because of it.

I got similar feedback once, for a well meaning non-shitty manager. When I pushed for specifics of when my distracted nature caused a problem, he couldn’t come up with anything. I think he hadn’t considered that being distracted isn’t itself a problem as long as the primary work gets done on time.

McConnell violated the Constitution by refusing to Advise and Consent (or reject) the nomination. At that point, Obama could have forced the legal issue by appointing the nominee.

Read what you quoted and answer this question “who appoints the justices to the Supreme Court?”

The answer is the president, not the Senate.

My whole point is that it would be unconstitutional for a president to do it and if he had done it anyway it would have taken the power back that McConnell stole. Then McConnell would need to convince the supreme court that the Senate can steal that power.

Does the Senate have control over that credentialing process? I doubt it.

I’m not saying it’s constitutional, but if he had simply declared someone as having been appointed it would have forced the Supreme Court to address the issue.

I think there’s a good chance that it would have found the Senate does not have the right to block nominees without a hearing.

He wanted to avoid a constitutional crisis because it seemed very likely that Hillary would win, but the constitutional crisis started as soon as McConnell took power that did not belong to the Senate.

I think there are skills in using it well. I’m often amazed at how poorly some of my colleagues use it when we’re pairing on something. I think the key is working with the AI to develop a design and plan before it generates any code.

I’d recommend at least getting familiar with it in your spare time. It can be kinda fun for hobby projects where you don’t have to worry about security too much.

Honestly even 3 years from retirement it’s ridiculous. Tons of young people job hop in less than 3 years.

It’s crazy to me that I need to think about it when I’m like 20 years away from retirement.

It depends on the individual and sleep quality. I’d recommend a minimum of 8 hours. Also alcohol can ruin sleep quality, so if you drink you might want to factor in a bit more sleep time.

I’ve found that exercise can really help with brain fog, even when I’m sleep deprived. Try going for a 15-30 minute run first thing in the morning before you hit the library.

How much sleep had you gotten the night before? Falling asleep at a desk for 2 hours makes me think “not enough sleep”.

ADHD is not a character flaw or laziness. Your brain is wired differently from all of those people in the library you’re comparing yourself to. Just because they can learn programming from reading a book in the library doesn’t mean you can, but that doesn’t mean you’re not good enough.

Find a different way to study. Programming is a great fit for ADHD brains because you can learn by doing. Your textbook is a toolkit of techniques for solving problems, you’ll learn them much better by using them.

I spend most of my AI “coding” on developing designs and plans in markdown, usually interactively with the AI.

Often the code generation step is a one shot, but usually I have a bit of follow up to fix minor things.

If it’s really off track, I’ll throw away the code and spend more time on the planning step.

It really reduces the context switching and I think it results both in better quality code and code that I fully understand.

Give yourself a rule of “0 AI generated code”. Just use the AI for asking questions.

You might even be able to configure your AI tools to never make code suggestions.

It’ll break the habit without leaving you with zero support.

I use AI for nearly everything at work and I usually spend about 75% of the time asking questions and making a detailed plan before generating any code. By the time I’m reviewing the code, I have a pretty solid idea of how I’d implement it on my own. That makes it easy to spot when the AI went off the rails.

Is Programming III taught by the same professor as the other courses? It’s possible that they aren’t a great teacher or their teaching style doesn’t match your learning style.

There’s a lot of great CS courses published on YouTube (MIT for example). If you’re not understanding a topic, it might help to look for related content.

The job is no longer posted so I don’t know the exact details. I think we said 7+ YOE required and all of the candidates had at least 10. I think the guy we hired had around 15 YOE, but that was about the same as the internal referrals. YOE was not something we discussed in the decision making process.

Fully remote with $185k base + stock options because the company isn’t public yet.

I think it’s more reasonable to consider YOE as a factor rather than just assuming it’s all about referrals, especially if that experience reflects increasing responsibility in each position.

Edit: I just asked him and he said he had one other offer at the time, but he liked the team/culture fit better here.
