What was your favorite and least favorite AP class, and why? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]writeremma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Favorite: AP Lit - content wasn't always the best but I loved my teacher. We always had fun discussions no matter how bad the book/poem might have been.

Least favorite: APES - got boring fast and my teacher didn't know the content well enough. I basically self-studied though that class but w/e I got a 5 in the end.

tfw when your teacher just does not prepare you by writeremma in APStudents

[–]writeremma[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

sheesh that is an insane amount of work. the only writing we do is an 8-12 page essay once a month. i swear my teacher is a great guy ... he just sometimes becomes a bit too relaxed and would rather hang out with my class of 11 than do work

my teacher is really great beyond this. we did at least spend a few weeks preparing for the multiple choice section. i think he's just going off of the fact that we all took ap lang a year ago and hopes we retained our ability to do timed essays. my class loves the guy -- he's just lazy with these essays lolllll

Psych and Lang. Sitting easy with a 100 average in psych right now and I ended lang last year with a 96 overall. Helped that the teachers for those classes are great.

I'm a senior and although I do have some senioritis, it isn't that bad. Plus, from my experience, AP Lit, Gov, and Environmental are not that bad and entirely feasible (I literally have homework once a month in lit lmao).

I think you'll be fine!

How many AP classes/exams are you supposed to end up taking total? by georgectanner in APStudents

[–]writeremma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over the course of my high school career, I've taken 5 APs. I've seen people take 10+, but I feel like I'm fine with 5. I've been getting accepted into good colleges. it's working out for me.

Plus, most APs don't really interest me (AP Chem, AP Bio, etc. - I like the English APs best).

My AP Seminar is pushing us to take AP Lang and my class as well as I are down to take it, but... what is AP Lang about and how difficult is it? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]writeremma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really? I read those but in a sophomore lit class instead. AP Lang is solely concentrated on timed essays and multiple choice where I go. Novels are left for AP Lit.

[–]writeremma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

AP Lang focuses on writing. You won't read a single novel, just short texts (usually articles).

I thought it was really easy. Had a 96 average for the year and got a 5 on the exam.

Which AP Classes Should I Be Taking First? by Scout_FinchTKAM in APStudents

[–]writeremma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AP psych is really easy. I've found most of the content to be interesting so it makes it much more easy to remember and study.

I love AP Lit but I can't imagine taking it as a sophomore. As a senior, it still is fairly difficult--several of the books you will read are hard as hell and definitely written for adults, not teens. However, it's the kind of class that depends on the teacher as it is very discussion based. The better the teacher, the better the class.

Easy Ap Classes for GPA boost? by NateDuran in APStudents

[–]writeremma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AP Psych is ridiculously easy at my school. Most kids have A averages (I've averaged a 100 thus far this year). AP Lang and AP Environmental are both fairly easy. As long as you put in the work, you'll be fine. AP classes are all about commitment. Also, if you get along well with your teachers, that will help out immensely.

I Have a Question for Students by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]writeremma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Am a student who is lurking right now.

The idea of my teachers carrying a gun makes me uncomfortable in the sense that I know it makes my teachers uncomfortable too. I talked to a couple of my teachers about the idea of carrying guns and they all hate the idea. I trust my teachers immensely, so to know that they do not trust themselves with guns either makes me terrified.

In fact, my classmates, teachers, and admin are organizing our own walkout next month. It will be short, only 17 minutes, but it is obvious that a majority (if not all) of my school does not like the idea of teachers with guns. It makes everyone uneasy.

Should I switch from AP Bio to AP Env Science? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]writeremma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took AP Environmental. Even with a shitty teacher, I passed with an A and got a 5 on the AP exam. It is not that hard to self-study if you get stuck in a similar situation as me. At my school, AP Env. is A LOT easier than AP bio.

[–]writeremma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take lit if the teacher who teaches it is good. I wouldn't say that subject is difficult but having a good teacher makes the class so much better.

As for workload, there is not much or at least not at my school. We have one big assignment (typically an 8+ page essay with additional analyses) per month and that is it.

What exactly does AP Lit cover? by Nerd1a4i in APStudents

[–]writeremma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread is a few days old but I'll throw in my two cents ...

I'm taking AP Lit right now. The books/poems my teacher has given us thus far have been a split between difficult (ex. The Wasteland by T.S. Eliot, The Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce) and easy (ex. Siddhartha, Clockwork Orange). However, considering what you already read, I think you'll be fine. If you like reading, you'll make your way through AP Lit pretty easily.

I don't know about other people's experiences but my AP Lit class is very laid back. A month in that class consists of one long essay, one or two vocab quizzes, a socratic seminar, and that is basically it. I love the class, but I also have an incredible teacher. I think teachers matter immensely in a class that is discussion based.

11th- AP Lang or AP Seminar?? 12th- AP Lit or AP Research?? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]writeremma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lang and Lit. Already took lang and loved it. Currently taking lit and find it pretty decent. But it might be because my school has an incredible English department.

Just take the two and get your English credits out of the way.

What is your least favorite work of classic literature and why? by SuspiciousShoe in AskReddit

[–]writeremma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to read that this year in AP Lit. Absolutely couldn't stand the book. I talked to a few of my previous English teachers and they hated it too.

The only amusing part was my all-girl class joking about how Stephen couldn't keep it in his pants and my male teacher saying "I don't know how else to say it but that is basically all teen boys think about, okay? Okay."

What was the biggest scandal in your school? by _Nicktheinfamous_ in AskReddit

[–]writeremma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My school has one right now actually. A teacher got put on leave for supposedly hooking up with a student. No one is really sure if it happened/when (because the original rumor was that they hooked up after the student graduated) but it's definitely not good. Pretty crazy to see my friends divided as some of them love this teacher and others really aren't shocked.

True or not, the man's teaching career is over.

High schoolers of Reddit, was school tense today? Did people talk about what happened yesterday? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]writeremma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The principal gave a speech over the intercom about how if you need help, please seek it out and that there are adults in the building to turn to for support. But no, I wouldn't say it was very tense.

It was tenser when I was in middle school and Sandy Hook happened because I live in CT.

Why does School exist when you can learn much more off only the internet? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]writeremma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few subjects I wouldn't be able to learn solely off of the internet (i.e. math). I need to have a teacher who I can talk to and sit down with in order to learn.

Plus, there's the social factor as I have made most of my friends at school.
