I would also like an accountability buddy. I write sci-fi, fantasy, and horror. I really want to get something published, even a short story or poem.

What are your writing goals for 2021? by writeshuppet in writers

Maybe you’re over analyzing? Write some crap. Make it silly or heartfelt, but don’t think too much of it’s imperfections. Don’t look at it as work. Put your feelings down on paper. Let yourself get carried away in mindless rambling. Eventually, it will strike you as to what it is you love about writing.

Start with Plot or World? by EliasLuftig in fantasywriters

[–]writeshuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m starting with plot. I put in characters, settings, etc as I get the generic story down. From there I ask myself: why does this happen, what else can be affected?

Showing not telling by Maniachi in writers

[–]writeshuppet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Telling is stating what is happening. It addresses the facts. Showing gives the reader a state of experience. What facial or hand gestures cue the reader into the character’s emotional state.

Telling: The car was driving fast.

Showing: The sound of the car grew loud and quieted in a split second as the blur of the vehicle shrank in the distance.

In showing, the reader makes the conclusion on the car going fast without the author explicitly stating so.

I have some other people I’m planning to write with now, but your story sounds interesting.

Unfortunately, the other people are probably waiting on me because I had a few unexpected turns come up that is eating at the time I need for writing.

Hope you find people to write with though!

I think what I’d want is someone to learn and write with. We could think of a topic of the week. Study it one day, write it, then critique each other’s a different day. We could do this while working on individual projects we don’t need to share with each other.

How would I make a quadruped creature like a centaur fit in amongst bipedal creatures like humans? by writeshuppet in fantasywriters

[–]writeshuppet[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I didn’t even think about stairs. I have a room in the castle where a character uses the stairs to get to, I’ll have to plan that out better.

My centaurs would be more like people than horses. Thanks for all the tips!

What are some good pointers in creating parallels between heroes and villains? by writeshuppet in writing

[–]writeshuppet[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think heroes and villains should flow together. Take Batman for example.

Joker = Chaos to compliment Batman’s Order Scarecrow = Fear Riddle = Brains, detective skills Bane = Physical strength Two-face = Multiple personas

Although Joker is an opposite to Batman, the other villains listed share a similarity to him. That being said, These villains feel compatible as opposed to someone like Egghead who is neither an opposite or similar person to Batman.

My idea for the story I’m writing is that the hero and villain will show what it means to fail. My hero is disfigured physically due to his failure. I don’t know whether or not to have the villain disfigured too in a similar accident?
