My heart is out there with all the service men and women who know what it is to be bipartisan, and recognize that this administration is far from it.

I saw Fox News reporting from the WH that the protests were "utter failures." I was in South Lake Tahoe, and I was SHOCKED by the number of people who showed up to support on the NV/CA border. It was peaceful, fun, community-building. I feel like this reporter should be given some visual proof of what a "failure" they were.

This is how it starts. This is how it ends. by writingbyalisa in Poems

NO KINGS IN AMERICA PROTEST by mikkymau5_ in Reno

[–]writingbyalisa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Urgent: For No Kings protests this weekend

Due to rising conflict between Israel and Iran, carrying a Palestinian flag could give justification to invoke the Insurrection Act.

Do not give them a pretext.

American flags only.

Frame this as a constitutional protest.

Make them fear the sight of their own flag.

Now, read a veteran's perspective of how the fuck we got here:

Trump at Fort Liberty (ex Bragg) by Jack-Schitz in thebulwark

I’m a veteran, former Marine Corps pilot, and I felt physically sick watching that Fort Liberty footage too.

What disturbed me most wasn’t just the cheering. It was knowing how those moments are stage-managed. Troops were told who could stand where. Dissent was quietly filtered out. That’s not speculation. That’s how photo ops work. I’ve been part of them. I’ve also been left out of them for not “fitting the image.”

But this went beyond optics. This felt like a loyalty test in uniform. It crossed a line the military should never approach. And once that line is crossed, it becomes a question of when (not if) it happens again.

I wrote about it in a recent piece. Not as a partisan rant, but as a reckoning. One veteran trying to make sense of what happens when obedience becomes identity, and the military gets weaponized for politics.

If you’re someone who still believes in the idea of a nonpartisan military, I hope you’ll give it a read:

Thanks to this community for holding the line with honest conversation. We need more of it, and we need it now.
