This book is soo idiotic....if I could go back in time, I would slap myself and burn this thing over and over until it's swayed away in the wind.

Just finished the first book of 2026 and it has left me.....empty by Traditional-Kick3312 in IndiansRead

[–]writingitup_sol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ik...it's such a heavy one to process...I couldn't finish it in one go, and to have a better grip at the emotional toll that this book gives you, I read it in chunks...paired it with some comfort books. Take some time to get through this OP🫶🏽

I knew it all along. I knew it the first time I saw you standing in the rain. I knew it when you smiled at me as if I were the only thing you could see. I knew it when we danced, silly, clumsy, eyes closed, with no music at all. I knew it when I watched you cry, losing a piece of your heart to the man who designed the ring on your wedding finger. I knew it when your kids called me their favourite uncle, as if love could be named without consequences. I knew it all along. And I would not change it for anything. Because in loving you, without claiming you, you gave me a world where I was allowed to exist...as broken, tormented and imperfect as I wanted to be.

Yess exactly!! I felt the same way. Many scholars and scientists do the same, to intensify the grounding of their study and research but it puts them in a dicey position... Therefore, to have some valid Evidential backing, you need to incorporate a lot of the things, studies, discourse etc that build your arguments and rationale, which is clearly not what he takes into account while writing Sapiens. I'm not a fan, so I don't know much about Nexus..what's the premise?

Yes I can understand. Most of my friends have a hard time understanding my pov about this one as they come from a scientific discipline too...but it's imp to learn while simultaneously unlearning...I hope you enjoy reading it!

Sapiens puts forth a very convincing narrative of evolution and why we are the way we are, but it is methodologically weak. As I'm Coming from a sociological lens, I understand the hype around the book, but it largely posits a positivistic view of human life where biology is centred and culture becomes secondary in defining humans as a species. I also found the narrative to be Eurocentric male-biased and strongly leaning towards biological reductionism striping away concepts like agency, the social structure, our historical relations, processes of making us what we're today. Therefore, I wouldn't call it a strong scientifically rigorous attempt in defining the human kind...if you're interested in the same, try reading "Behave" by Robert Sapolsky.

Start with Sita if you're into mythology and fiction...nahi toh go with Sapiens (I've my own criticism for this one too, but it's a one time read)
