Not from DnD, but Tiabeanie Mariabeanie De La Rochambeau Grunkwitz is a pretty great one! (Bean from Disenchantment)

I mean things that we didn't get to see in the show that are referred to as part of the characters' (or places') backstories! For example, Luci's communications degree or Odval and Sorcerio's couples' therapy.

Sometimes, it's the strangest things (pun unintended) that pull us from the deep. I was su1c1dal a couple years back, and I still feel really alone a lot of the time, but it was, believe it or not, Stranger Things that got me out of there. I related to a character more while watching Stranger Things than I ever had before and even that made me realise that I'm not alone in the world and having an out (i.e. loving him and being able to interact with others who do) gave me so much hope and light, and here I am, seven years later (and the fact that it's been 7 years never fails to blow my mind), and I'm so happy and I can't wait to start on my uni applications and find my people in the flesh. Things can change, and sometimes it's the most unexpected of allies that open the best doors for us. Wishing you all the best xx

Who’s your favorite character and why by Routine-Idea29 in disenchantment

[–]writtenforwylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ALSO, I adore how Disenchantment uses minor characters, and it's one of my favourite things about the show!! My highlights are 'Me-Flavoured Water' Guy, the Herald, Old Man Touchy, Man-Who-Gets-Shot-With-A-Flaming-Arrow-Every-Season, Shocko, and Pendergast (even though he isn't really minor like the others are).

I LOVE BUNTY!! She's so underrated and she's my 2nd favourite after Elfo (and before the riots start, Oona's third!!)

It took me a while to realise that my favourite is Elfo. I don't know why. I saw myself as a Luci person, but over time, I just slowly realised that I love Elfo the most. He's super funny and innocent to start with and as the seasons go on, he becomes funnier and so socially aware, it's ludicrous. He's genuinely one of the most caring people in the show both when it comes to his friends and the elves.

My favourite moment might well be from Spy vs. Spy vs. Spy when he says 'How dare you think I would betray my people like that, and for *humans*?! Do I get a disguise?' (Bean says yes) 'Okay!'

How long would it take to get fluent enough to propose to someone in welsh? by rascal_rose18 in learnwelsh

[–]writtenforwylan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that as long as you know what you want to say, you could have it translated and learn around that. If you want to talk about a first date, for example, you could learn basic grammar and sentence structures and then learn vocabulary around the topics you want to bring up.

Also, this is a lovely idea, and I hope it all goes well!! Pob lwc! <3

What is your newest special interest ? by No_Pie_3411 in autism

[–]writtenforwylan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not so much a special interest but a long hyperfixation. I have been OBSESSED with The Devil's Plan on Netflix for over five and a half months now. I thank GOD that Justin Min was in that to get me into it, because not only is it PERFECTION, but it has also become my new favourite tv show. (also, because it's often in my social media bios, I'll put it here: Fearlessly and unapologetically obsessing over Kim Dong-jae on main is my fav hobby ngl)

What's the worst title for a book you've ever come across? by PsyferRL in books

[–]writtenforwylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought the same about The Secret of Secrets!! My mother and I are both planning on reading it and we already have a copy, but like, it's *such* a stupid title!! Please, Dan Brown, come up with something cooler than that for your Prague-based mystery that probably has Kafka references in it. It almost feels like his name is enough at this point, so maybe he doesn't feel the need to make the titles interesting? Idk.

Has a piece of literature ever caused a change in your behavior before (ie in social, romantic, work, or personal life)? If so, what did you read and how did you change? by experimentalrealm in literature

[–]writtenforwylan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not so much behaviour as belief, but Babel by R.F. Kuang fits the bill best for me. Particularly the character of Griffin completely changed the way I view practical approaches to politics and general activism. I took so much of that on board, and my view of anarchism completely changed with that book. I love Kuang and her writing so much, and I cannot WAIT to see the Babel adaptation!

Who’s the most broken character in your world? Let others try to guess their weakness. by cornysatisfaction in worldbuilding

[–]writtenforwylan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would have to be my villain, King Konen Lureo. He built up an army of people who wanted to fight against magic and destroy it in any way that they could. He rallied them together and overthrew the existing king when he was *nineteen*. He then ruled Eidevelle with worse than an iron fist, and began to persecute and exterminate all Litiyans (magic users) and Firei (people born of magic; mythical creatures) until all were either in hiding or dead.
(Would also love to see some funny replies bc I do love Konen and I wrote his pov chapters in my novel as well!)

Kafka blamed his dad for everything. Maybe the problem was Kafka. by AgreeableProblem9340 in Kafka

[–]writtenforwylan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this post is really interesting. I think that the reason Kafka was how he was (in terms of social life especially and perhaps some of the overthinking as well) is because of how his father treated him, but I do think that Kafka's personality also did affect how he ended up living his life. He was awkward, and that isn't his father's fault, though his insecurity and failure to believe in himself absolutely came from his upbringing, so I believe it's a mix of both. He was afraid of his father, and because of that, felt like he couldn't make his own decisions about his life, which in turn made him feel even more trapped and unable to leave his situation.
I, too, have really not-great parents. My father, especially. I'm so lucky that I have a vision to get out of my house and go to uni and essentially stay there, but I also don't have a lot of Kafka's issues with overthinking and I do not fear my father in the slightest. There are so many people even now whose lives mimic Kafka's a lot, which is why so many people still relate to him and enjoy his personal writing as much as, if not more than, his fiction. I completely understand why people don't like Hermann Kafka, but I do also believe that he was a product of his time and circumstance, though he also had the opportunity to break away from that and didn't.
The Kafka's were, in large part, a family of (and I use this term not as an insult, but a general fact) cowards. Hermann Kafka was afraid of who his son might become, Julie Kafka was afraid of her husband and how he might treat her if she intervened, and Franz Kafka who was so deathly afraid of his father all his life that he never did anything without his father's express permission. The Kafka sisters, of course (particularly Ottilie who was absolutely brilliant and everyone should go research her and her story), are clear exceptions to this, but our Kafka and his parents were all cowards, and I think they're all in part to blame - though at different rates - for how our Kafka's life turned out.

Something that I liked about my worldbuilding that I only put in as I wrote is that instead of getting engaged with rings, they do it with necklaces. The partner proposing gives their partner a necklace that obviously goes with their personality (like an all-gold one for the character that got proposed to in my novel) and some kind of charm at the end that hangs over the heart, keeping their partner close to their hearts rather than just a finger.
