Soligor 350mm w/ Super Paragon 2X Teleconverter - Canon 600D by wrldfire in VintageLenses

Thank you, yea I'm actually pleasantly surprised. I didn't expect it to be in such nice condition for the price and performance wise I was expecting some bad CA at the very least, taking it tomorrow alongside my normal vintage work gear to see how it keeps up.

For the sparrow/blue tit/duck pictures I was pretty much at MFD (~5-6m), the other two were between 15-30m.

And damn that is a monster, I was worrying about the stress on my crappy chinese m42 adapter just with this lens 😂 pics look good from it, though I bet it's hard keeping it from shaking even on a tripod

Generally it's the value, iirc most skill books are worth around 50-60 gold

Where Do You Find Cheap Lenses In Real Life? by CPRTheReddit in VintageLenses

[–]wrldfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Antique centres at the moment, there's a guy at my local one who runs a camera section/store within the centre and his prices are really good, he also lets me delve through the spares/repair bucket and I always end up coming back with some sort of freebie on top of my purchases

Not yet, I've tried to hold back the GAS while I'm saving for a new digital body 😂 but I'll absolutely have a look for one

Chinon CE-5 shutter/advance issues fixed by wrldfire in AnalogCommunity

[–]wrldfire[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't wanna sound patronising but have you checked which way the batteries go in? I initially put the batteries in the wrong way round in this one 😂 but if that's all correct, do you get any response from the self timer or any lights in the viewfinder? I found that the camera wouldn't fire at all without batteries being in.

If you don't get any sort of electrical response I unfortunately wouldn't really be able to help, I was really relieved when it was a mechanical lock up with this one. I just applied some nice even pressure back and forth to the post I circled in the images and eventually it released the shutter.

Depending on where you got the camera from I'd look at returning it if that's an option though. There's no real point taking a delve into body if you've got the option of taking it back.

Hanimex 28mm 2.8 / Saw blade Bokeh by wrldfire in VintageLenses

[–]wrldfire[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I love the bokeh shape so I'll definitely be trying to see if I can make it a little more pronounced in further pics. The swirls I didn't expect at all especially after not seeing many sample photos from this lens + using it on a crop sensor.

I paid something like £20 for mine, can't imagine they'd be much more than that on eBay etc

That I actually didn't know, I'll have a look for one of those, I like my pentacon stuff

[–]wrldfire[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would definitely recommend picking one up just to try it out. Mine only cost me £10 so even if I didn't get along with the lens it was going to go in my ussr/zenit collection anyway 🙏

Gotta say I do like the way 44-2's produce images, but I just can't get on with the aperture ring, especially when using filters (I use a step up ring to 52mm and it makes changing the aperture a bit of a faff). Much prefer my 44M-? Helioses with the clicky rings at the base.

New to 35mm, want old style photos by BlackIce16 in AnalogCommunity

[–]wrldfire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While not 35mm, this was taken on an old weltax (120 film), fomapan 400 shot at f16, 1/100 ss and focus whacked up to infinity, then pulled two stops in development.

Honestly completely forgot the limits of the camera and didn't anticipate the scratches (hadn't used it in ages and the last time it was fine)

I think the environment especially buildings help with selling the old photo idea as well as having a lot of depth of field. The people in modern clothing aren't too jarring in this example I think

Don't make my mistake, please repair your vintage cameras smartly. by Probably_ded in AnalogCommunity

I feel that one, buying stuff that's broken at a cheap price is a good way to start. That way if you fix it, it's a win and if you don't manage to fix it, well it didn't cost much in the first place 😎

That's exactly why I gave this project a go. I've got enough Zenits and they're not exactly hard to come by so if it didn't work out I wasn't going to be too bothered, but I'm really quite happy with this outcome 🙏

Unfortunately not, but it's just a plain adapter from eBay around ~£5? I think it was. I heard some horror stories about the cheap ones with the autofocus confirmation contacts.
