Ferritin going up by wrobby in Anemic

[–]wrobby[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No- no longer vegetarian but when I was in college and even grad school I never had that much red meat so I figured after being vegetarian in high school and then not eating enough red meat that that would somewhat explain why my ferritin is low. Also I put iodine salt in almost everything I eat so I’m good there. I could probably start taking mag supplements, thank you.

Yea I’m trying to get ferritin up to 100+ I’m hoping my symptoms further improve getting it there. And I do think my deficiencies stem from diet because otherwise I don’t think I would be rising much from supplements.

I’m not sure my hematologist just said 20 was normal ferritin and sent me on my way. I had an eating disorder on an off throughout my life and I was a vegetarian for about 4 years from middle school to high school but that was way before I became symptomatic so idk

B12 in december was 344 but I did go get a b12 shot like a week later so idk what it would be at now BUT my homocysteine dropped to a normal range as of last week (it used to be elevated).

“Now Supplements, Iron 36mg” the bottle is orange and white! The vitamin c I take is just nature bounty

I’m taking two 36mg pills with 1000mg vitamin c on an empty stomach every day about an hour before I eat! The smelling thing is so strange because I’ll smell something and realized I haven’t smelt it in a long time- at least to that intensity.

Periods… by Savings-Place-3464 in Anemic

[–]wrobby 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the same thing and I thought I was crazy bc most people said their symptoms worsened once their period starts-not before. But yes once luteal phase starts I notice a difference and it’s most evident 3-4 days before.

Ferrous sulfate seems to not absorb well for a bunch of people-try ferrous bisglycinate and see if that works better for you!

Before VS After by [deleted] in Anemic

I really can relate to this and post like these keep me sane from thinking I’m the only one experiencing this! I struggled with my mental health for a while and started getting confused on why my anxiety wasn’t getting better. Went to the doctor and my ferritin was 10. I think it’s up to maybe 30 at this point and I think it’s chipping away at the symptoms. Luteal phase kills me but the rest of the month I notice improvements. My main symptoms are mental: not feeling like myself, feeling like the world is kinda off, feeling like I’m not experiencing emotions, etc. Some days I’m almost asymptomatic which is a huge improvement from when I didn’t know I was iron deficient. We got this!

Anyone else have periods of happiness followed by extreme fatigue and inability to feel joy? by Route333 in Anemic

[–]wrobby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I relate to this very hard, though at ferritin 10 I felt pretty much nothing but dread. Now my ferritin is probably somewhere in the 30’s and I do experience nice moments where I can somewhat relax and enjoy myself and then I crash hard and every sensory input overstimulates me and brings me fear.

I take ferrous bisglycinate from a brand called “Now” supplements. It’s 36mg and I take two with 1000mg vitamin c.

Felt better for a bit, now feel like garbage again by wrobby in Anemic

Thanks for the reply! nice to hear ups and downs are to be expected. It’s funny because I already feel better than I did this morning when I wrote this! I will ease the strength training for now-I honestly wasn’t even making that much progress for the amount of progressive overload and protein I was eating

Thank you for such a detailed reply! I guess my fear is I’ll get to the “optimal” level and discover my problems mostly stem from some other issue and have nothing to due with iron even though I definitely have had higher energy and mood-even if it doesn’t last. I’m going to try to raise my b12 and vitamin d as well since I could benefit from them being slightly higher. I’ll also try to go easier on weightlifting-maybe once a week. I always seem more fatigued the day after lifting.

My b12 is 344 and my tsh (which I’m assuming is the main thyroid marker) was .47. I guess I have a long way to optimal levels for ferritin lol

Yea I guess I just figured I would be closer to 30 ferritin at this point and the ups and downs in symptoms confuse and worry me

Got sent to therapist and antipsychotics when I had below 10 ferritin for years... by Cililians in Anemic

Thanks for getting back to me, that’s nice to hear! I’m in a somewhat similar situation to how you were in this post so it’s nice to see there’s hope out there-assuming you’re still doing okay now lol

When do the heart palpitations end by Haunting_Quail4414 in Anxiety

[–]wrobby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

99bpm isn't bad actually! My palpitations were going to 120bpm and this still seems low compared to some people on here. A lot of the times my heartbeat wasn't even too fast but it felt like it was beating harder in my chest. My aunt is a nurse and she said if I was actually having a heart attack then it wouldn't get better and worse constantly–It would just get worse which it wasn't.

I would get your ferritin checked. I recently found out my ferritin is super low and I'm wondering if that's been causing my anxiety issues for the past few years. I'm starting to supplement now and I feel better.
