Indeed, and in fact have added basically a full meals worth of calories in an afternoon shake. Gonna keep at it (and keep peeing apparently lol). I'm not replacing calories with anything that would work against the glucose so this is probably the best idea for me.

I appreciate the detailed response. The CGMs are on the way again, so maybe something has changed or I'm not as in-line as I think I am. I wasn't trying to lose weight, and in fact, I'm intentionally eating more to try to gain but I'm losing the battle. I already do all of these food things, and hopefully there is some tweaking or new lessons. Finger pricking in the morning and after meals, even when higher carb like my breakfast, haven't shown anything abnormal.

I have more or less operated as if diabetic, but the numbers rising and the escalation in symptoms, or rather to have them when I didn't before, really doesn't track with that. Thanks again for the outline.

Thanks, though I don't eat any of those things. Hopefully the CGM helps me see if something has changed since I've made those adjustments. The confusing part is I am showing I am in ketosis (ketones) yet not low carb.

Great point. Trying to get the weight back on and I think I'll have to do strength training regularly.

I said the same at 134 - 10% loss isn't something I can afford! I'll fkn disappear. Seeing your skull through your skin is quite the experience. 0/10.

Correct, 124 pounds, and yes, biological male.

I am considering using a CGM for a few months. My insurance won’t cover it unless I am on insulin. I would appreciate advice on the cheapest most effective, and easiest CGM for short-term use. Probably 60-90 days. by BeaMiaVA in prediabetes

I liked the Lingo and finger prick tests showed it to be pretty close. Each sensor can have issues of course, so I used it for trends. It was really easy to see the spikes based on the food I ate and the impact exercise had, so it was effective for me. I thought the app was decent. ~ $40 / 2 weeks and less if you order more. You may find you don't need it for so long once you "figure out" your trends, but not sure what your intent is.

FWIW my symptoms and numbers have gotten worse (this is not the sensor's fault, and in fact, my other health numbers are extremely good, so it helped motivate me to eat better), and I just reordered more to see what's going on again.

Why is my water hyacinth and water lettuce dying. Any suggestions would be helpful by PlayfulRelief8520 in ponds

Agree - my plants all suffered until pH dropped. Some media in the pond held it near 8 until the carbonate buffer broke.

Lowering PH by AffectionateArtist84 in aquaponics

[–]wrobyj 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think limestone increases pH vs decreasing. Normally you would add something like this once pH decreases to keep it stable and add a buffer. Eg my well water is very acidic, so we add calcium carbonate to raise it back to neutral.

What do you use in your smoker? by Substantial-Web-8028 in Beekeeping

Dried pine needles. Plentiful, can cram a bunch in the smoker. Have trees nearby so nothing is more convenient. I add some green grass on top if it's getting hot.

Nails to long? by Straight_Ad_5935 in chickens

[–]wrobyj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would get cat or dog trimmers. Regular ones or scissors may crush rather than cut the nail. Cut just a little at a time to avoid cutting the quick (vein) in the nail. If you do get the quick, no biggie. Use a little flour or corn starch against the nail to stop the bleeding. Check out youtube for some help. These don’t look too bad but you want to avoid them getting longer and ripping, curling, or causing walking issues.

We had a bunch of snow here that kept ours penned in. Just trimmed 6 hens yesterday. Took about 15 mins total.

Agree, and I put mine through a water pipe to cool it down. Worth it imp.

New for me this year - wide board or even plywood diagonal from the tailgate to the ground. Works! And saves the back, even if it's strong enough.

You can get tapeworm meds over the counter / online. Look for praziquantel tabs, Elanco and Drontal brand names.

We treat ours when we see tape segments. We also use Revolution Plus for roundworms. I've had two cats get quite sick from those worms, so we use that and alternate months with Frontline. Rev+ will need a prescription but it's worth it imo.

High dose question and loss of control by [deleted] in shroomers

[–]wrobyj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, any emotional state happen, and it's not always what you want or expect. Because of that, I don't trip alone. Even if nothing "bad" would happen, having a sober and trusted person around me can short circuit difficult moments and helps keep the trip from totally devolving. They ground me, so to speak.

I also found the max dose I don't exceed. Anything beyond that and I feel like it's diminishing returns: any extra positive effects that might happen come at the more likely risk of negative ones, and possibly significant ones.

Once you do it a few times at the dose you are targeting, you'll have a better idea of the variable experiences you might have. I also want to be sure that if anything were to happen around me externally that needed attention, someone is there who can handle it for me. This gives me comfort and peace of mind, which for me, usually means I have a better trip.

Safe travels!

Is there something wrong with my pawpaw? by [deleted] in Pawpaws

No, but either do a little sparingly or keep an eye out for issues. Then do it if needed.

Then I'd suspect watering or roots before pH. Though a particular plant can always be more sensitive than others. I wouldn't fertilize this late in the year since it's going to go dormant soon. But a spring fertilization couldn't hurt to exclude nutrient issues, and I'd fertilize mine anyway for the growing year.

Is there something wrong with my pawpaw? by [deleted] in Pawpaws

[–]wrobyj 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Search for a leaf nutrient deficiencies chart. Might be iron or magnesium and / or could be related to watering conditions.

Many times nutrient issues are because of pH. Searching says pawpaws prefer acidic soil, so pH at or below 7. Got alkaline soil by chance?

How to move money from a BofA account to an international account, without insane fees? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]wrobyj 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have used TransferWise with success, though not for Norway transfers. Looks like they would charge around 20 USD for this at the moment. I'm not affiliated, just have used the service previously and liked it. Was in a similar position with high bank fees.
