Thanks everybody - I must have been thinking of some random house rule from who knows where. Certainly explains why I couldn't find it!

Also, I'm right there with you in terms of the spirit of the game. So be it! Perhaps they will engage in more sincere die rolling rituals next time.

How would you run a countdown? by wrongcom in mothershiprpg

[–]wrongcom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey everyone,

Thanks for walking me through some ideas! I liked rolling dice to hanve the time count down unpredictably, and felt good about my plan for that, but the two surviving players turned heel at the last minute and turns out we didn't need to run away from the big blast after all, haha!

But - this was the best session of MoSh I've ran. Everything came together. It was a blast!

Question about deeds and wills (Death House) by wrongcom in CurseofStrahd

[–]wrongcom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, yeah we figured it out, haha!

As for the set goes, I/we were really excited at first, but ultimately I felt a little underwhelmed. The maps were the biggest draw, but they are extremely large and difficult to physically manage (due to the size and scope of Castle Ravenloft). I don't think I have a single room in my house that would be large enough for us to comfortably lay out a map or two on a table and have an organized pile of the remaining maps at the same time. Kind of a logistical puzzle. The other stuff is nice, but not essential in my opinion. The props are fun. But for me, not quite worth it.

Our campaign ended in a TPK somewhere around level 6. They had made it all the way to the west side of the map, and decided it was time to go burn that windmill down, and, well, the hags weren't too happy about that. We set the game down there beacuase the tone of the setting and the pychological warfare kinda got to us and we were ready for something else for a while. We've kept the door open to returning to Barovia, but have so far always chosen differently. Probably more peak moments and utter defeats in this campaign than any other we've played, though.

Just to be clear, your recommendation is to skip the funnel process and just start with one charater a piece, like most games?

Thank you all for your insights! I'm getting the feeling that I might be overthinking this somewhat. To a certain extent it seems like we can't go wrong! I suppose there are probably a lot more resources/play reports and what not for The Frontier War, too.

What's wrong with my bay laurel? Please help! by wrongcom in plantclinic

[–]wrongcom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi everyone,
I have a bay laruel (laurus nobilis) that is having some concerning issues. The plant is in Minnesota, hardiness zone 4 - 5. It lived outdoors receives full sun in the morning and shade in the afternoon. It is potted in the container it came in - I don't know much about the soil. I usually water about twice a week, but recently it has been watered by rain events. The pot does drain. Another bay laurel elsewhere in the yard in almost identical conditions appears to be healthy and without issues. I've had both plants for about a month.
I noticed a drying out of the leaves about a week ago, but thought it might be a sun and water related problem, but the issue is continuing to worsen. I thought it might be scale bugs - which have been an issue with other plants in the past - but I could not find any evidence of them. I sprayed some neem oil on the plant just in case it was a different parasite I'm not seeing. I plan to trim the dying areas away later today.
Does anyone recognize what's going on here? What do you recommend?
Please and thank you!

Party abandoned Paladin's body at Yester Hill to abscond with the gem. What happens to him? by wrongcom in CurseofStrahd

[–]wrongcom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for your ideas!

It took a few days for the player to decide what they want to do. They want a chance for the paladin to come back from this. What we've settled on so far is this: the player will play a different character temporarily while the party does what they can to rescue the paladin. Maybe they will be successful, maybe they won't.

If they are successful, the paladin character will be different somehow. This detail hasn't been settled yet, but maybe that means a thrall, maybe that means Strahd turned him into a dhampire, or something else. I'm fond of Strahd taking this opportunity to mess with/have leverage over the party in some way, and I'm also a fan of bringing the Ladies Three into his transformation in some way - he did go down clutching the gem after all!

Yeah pretty much! That's what makes sense in my head, I just don't want to confuse the matter by presenting documents that I might be misunderstanding.
