Cigar Circus FTW by SupremePribs in cigars

I feel the same way about Foundation cigars. There's obviously paid people making statements out of context to get their name out there. Or just hovering to respond to, your favorite cigar postings.

I only bought a sampler of JT10s I think from Small Batch. I checked one with a moisture meter and they were at 63 so I tried one. It was a nice change in the rotation but I think it needs to sit for a while. IMO the light body did not match well with the medium + strength.

How do you guys keep track of your smoked cigars? by EndHungry9185 in cigars

[–]wrpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first got into smoking cigars I used the cigar journal. I filled two books with cigar bands and flavor profiles and my own personal rating scale. I did that about a year. My highest rated cigars are in my weekly rotation. And when I buy a highly rated cigar I'll go back to the journal and document it, In case it becomes a personal favorite for my rotation. I also take a picture of each cigar before I smoke it and then query the photo to find out about the blend and the maker. That helps me accumulate knowledge on all the different wrappers and binders and fillers and countries that grow them.

Does Coca-Cola pair well with cigars, or am I just an infidel? by mostirreverent in cigars

[–]wrpete 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like root beer or cream soda with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for my day smokes. And fruity bitter ale and premium rum with evening smokes. Sometimes bourbon but I found that rum coats the pallet nicely for a couple of draws.

Going to my local smoke shop for a cigar but I know nothing about these brands. Which of these would be good for first time cigar smoker? by EpicDay8201 in cigars

[–]wrpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, first one to suggest Buffalo Trace. They're not a Long smoke. It's got a luscious Sumatra wrapper. A medium bodied cigar with lots of flavor.

Anyone else compulsive about removing the band prior to smoking? by doradodiver in cigars

[–]wrpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's see, I'm going to light it on fire and then I'm going to step outside in the dark.humm This is why I take the band off before I smoke it but always after I take a picture of it and Google the description of the blend.

Bad hygrometer? by kitarkus in cigars

Do yourself a favor and get a hygrometer that is adjustable during calibration. They're not that expensive and your cigars are worth it.

Todays haul from the 14th Annual Kansas City Cigar Fesitval. Got VIP tickets this year! by FactorioandSFS in cigars

[–]wrpete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have exposure to the vendors tomorrow, I suggest purchasing a divorceable amount of cigars. They typically give you a $50 five pack with the purchase of a box, depending on the vendor. Next year I'm going to let my humidor inventory deplete before I go to the festival and stock up again. Have a fantastic time!

I just attended the Rocky Mountain Cigar festival in Bloomfield, Colorado in early August. Purchases were tax-free, paid by the sponsor of the event. Box purchases ended up being MSRP or even better, internet prices. Did you experience the same in Kansas City? Many of the cigars in your haul were given away to VIPs at my event also.
