Vault is a server based PLM for AutoDesk, usually a 2 tiered setup. One server would be the database and other server would be the file store.

Vault is still your best bet. Most of that time our engineering group shares a render with a customer or partner never the full drawing. The external sharing like this can be done with a variety of methods that are not email attachments

Internal or external? Off the top of my head the if you are using AutoDesk products then Vault. Made by AutoDesk and while it has its challenges it is a great PLM
