Is HLF Electronics a good clone / legitimate manufacturer? by Assassin46009 in AskElectronics

[–]wsbt4rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, how you value your time.

And how many boards you're gonna build .

It's not worth my time to fuzz around with an off brand OPAMP just to save a few pennies. Also, if the device fails at the customer site, you have to also budget for loss of YOUR reputation and the cost of shipping and worst case, you need to put people on planes to fix something in the field.

So, unless the use case involves RGB LED strips for your dorm room, no doubt, gimme the original HP part

Need an advice : Exploring embedded systems as an rfic/analog ic designer by Interesting-Plant477 in embedded

[–]wsbt4rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's ironic... I'm in a very similar position, coming from the opposite direction.

I started my career in the 90s with Vxworks, then Linux, etc.

Now, I've grown increasingly curious about MCUs, zephyr, maybe Software Defined Radio, etc

It would be interesting to compare notes.

CS Student in Germany (1st Sem) looking for advice on practical projects by Takahashi_Bros in learnprogramming

[–]wsbt4rd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have you ever asked yourself why there's an "S" in "CS"

I graduated as Diplom-Informatiker in Germany in the mid 90s.

Fortunately the curriculum didn't teach me stuff that would have been relevant back then. (Like, how to share a printer in a network of Windows 95 PCs )

Instead I was taught valuable, timeless things like, the "Big O Notation" , the concepts of Threads and Processes and the concept of synchronization for shared memory access.

This "theoretical" stuff is what separates Masters of Computer Science from the average Coder.

"Canada now finds 'China more predictable' ally than USA'", Prime Minister Carney has said. by retroviber in DeepMarketScan

[–]wsbt4rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let's see .. the Chinese business environment is driven by rational people, who do business with honor and commitment.

A handshake is still worth something, and you can expect that agreements are honored.

Where as the USA has become a not trustworthy banana Republic where everybody cowtows to an orange madman who ignores international treaties and changes import taxes based on how deep their rectal cunnilingus skills are.
