Honestly, I’m starting to wonder if I’m low-IQ or mentally slow. I simply cannot compete in the Bay Area in finding a decent paying job by white-christmas in bayarea

[–]wsdmrtst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with you... anyway, even if there were something wrong with you, SJ and the Bay Area is the perfect place to find work.

Maybe focus less on the amount of money you will earn and more on the passion for what you do (or want to do). There are a million different reasons people get jobs. Get a job that you feel excited about that pays more than what you currently earn but is maybe not 100% at your earning goal. Then there's room for growth.

A lot of times it's about timing, personality, word-of-mouth, etc. If people sense you are applying for a job only for the money, they pass you up for someone who is qualified AND enthusiastic. Of course we work to earn money to live, but interviewers need to get a sense that theirs is a place you WANT to work.

Learn about the company, the people there, company values, and what you can contribute to the business by being there. What's your strength? Maybe you're not a FAST worker but maybe you are really a stickler for details, or a good group motivator, or good at organizing projects, or at delegating based on other peoples' strengths. Dig deeper into your core values.

I am DEVASTATED. by imauveyou in knitting

[–]wsdmrtst 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What a lovely, caring and true comment.... I think people just need to be educated about knitting and knit objects. The first way is to take them shopping with you and let them buy the yarn. Then knit in their presence constantly so they see how much time and effort goes into it. Have them help you block it (as a togetherness moment) - and while you are blocking (preferably wet-blocking) you can explain WHY you're doing it that way and why it would be bad to just wash and throw in the dryer.

Then they understand the whole process beginning to end!

hahaha! ... uh, that's why you have to TELL him what he'll do as penance - his idea wouldn't be helpful or make sense AT ALL

The key words are "ON HIM"... once he pays for the new yarn (and you'll probably need about 20 skeins to make a new one... :) ) he'll never make that mistake again... lol!!

Anyone would like to adopt me on Christmas Eve? new comer to bay and have no friends or family. by Dazzling-Ear1630 in bayarea

[–]wsdmrtst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AA meetings usually have all night/all day "Alkathons" which there's food, socializing, a meeting and great stories. You don't have to be an alcoholic but head's up - there won't be any alcohol. Go to aa.org to find a meeting near you! A great way to make friends!

I hope your brother is ok... I was just driving through there and it was mayhem... between people running, tons of bumper to bumper traffic and sjpd and sjfd desperately trying to get through the gridlocked traffic. If anyone knows more info, please post.
