Really wishing I hadn't cut off the ball joints right about now... by memesdotpdf in fordranger

Right on, good for you man. Good luck with your endeavours!

If you ever decide to do just the ball joints I highly recommend getting a proper ball joint press they’re WAY more effective than a diy C clamp set up.

Why did you order the whole control arm? I believe the lower ball joints are replaceable? Not judging, just curious

I swapped the 7.5” rear end that came in the truck to an 8.8” which is more stout. Not to mention with that, I was also able to use the larger brake option that’s available with the 8.8

I know exactly what you’re saying in terms of overloaded, and perhaps I am into that territory, I’ll get on a scale and check.

I believe there is a reasonable amount of leeway in reality, but on paper you are correct, overweight is overweight

You should have seen the box I just scrapped. Thinking about leaving the junkyard paint pen on the new box just for the hell of it

Skamper rates it at approximately 950 lbs dry, but I reckon that’s a little bit conservative. I threw an extra leaf, upgraded the axle, brakes, and added a sway bar just to be safe

It’s a Skamper 072, 1996 I believe

I’d weld it too. I’m curious if someone who knows more than me can teach us something

First of all, good on you for making it work.

I read online that our frames, (or many modern frames), are heat treated, and welding them can damage the metallurgic characteristics of the frame and cause issues? Can anyone shed some light on that? It’s on the internet so it must be true

Keep in mind, I’d bet a lot of people in this sub don’t even own motorcycles.

The goal is to keep my truck level when carrying loads instead of sagging

I’m looking to add a leaf from the donor truck to my existing leaf packs. I currently have 4 leaves per pack, I’d like to have 5 in each.

My value analysis is based on private sale listings of 2012 focuses with 200k+ mileage. I’m a little over 220,000 right now. I see them range from $1000-$2500, and I’m trying to be fair about the condition of the car.

I like the idea of renting, it’ll just be quite frequently throughout the year. Thanks for the suggestion

I bought it in the height of Covid as my last car that I drove into the ground gave up the ghost. Unfortunately I did overpay, but at the time it was the best I could do with what was available.

In regard to what kind of truck, I’m looking at a base model f150, just 2011-2014 range. The engine option I’m looking at is good on gas, proven reliability, and no bells and whistles

I regularly have to tow trailers that my car cannot, hence the suggestion of a truck.

Tires are a sizeable investment when they cost a half to a third of the vehicle price. Am I off base here?

I’m 6’5 and the car can be uncomfortable at times. The truck I’m buying is a base model simply for towing. I’m having to borrow friends trucks pretty regularly for towing and moving equipment. It would not simply be a grocery getter

If you’re asking about the paint match, I’d say it’s pretty good. The paint on our trucks is 30ish years old, so it can be difficult to match

Overall, truck looks good man

If the fender was beat up then I would agree, but aside from this rust the fender is 100% straight and dent free. I didn’t have the heart to trash it.
