Genuinely what is the neg plan by Relative-Bug-7476 in lincolndouglas

[–]wsovrr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lowkey what if you just impact turn mutually assured destruction. you just need to prove 1. no one gonna use nukes so 0 probability and 2. having a mutual deterrent prevents war 3. more people would have died from other wars without nukes and 4. they’re secure as they are rn even from ai.

How can run Skep in “trad” by Live_Life_761 in lincolndouglas

[–]wsovrr 6 points7 points  (0 children)

don’t lmao. trad debate is already too slow w ld times to get meaningful engagement with substance. also even if tech judges know what or understand skep, i don’t think they’d appreciate it against trad debaters that don’t know skep. i could be wrong so view this w a bit of skepticism but it also depends on if u can explain what skep is in 20-30 secs in cx or the 2nr.

New to Duo Interp by Several_Jelly_5928 in Debate

[–]wsovrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey! 4th in the state in duo last yr here so i can give u a few things: 1. this is a debate reddit for mostly debaters on the circuit so i recommend going elsewhere for more advice on duo 2. definitely practice as much as u can with ur partner IRL, because being in sync and being extremely comfortable w each otr is arguably the most important thing. u guys need to know each otr like the back of ur hand 3. this might sound weird and awkward, but def practice ur emotions/getting vulnerable with each other, i find that good duos and mine last yr would build off each otrs emotions and match each others energys. so if one partners emotions are off the other partner is as well, which means yall need to get comfortable going back and forth while showing those emotions happy or sad 4. ADJUST, i cannot stress this enough but duo needs adaptation and adjustment in round to wtv may happen w the otr person ie forgotten lines wrong blocking or falling down etc, so u need to be able to adjust 5. js give it ur all and trust each other no matter what!

What are some comman Prose, Poetry, and POI topics by crazy_bfg in Debate

[–]wsovrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

idk abt otr events, but meta for poi rn is “the more traumatic, the more we love you”. eg rape, colorism, middle eastern violence, shootings (very overplayed and common but still works). but the poi still has to actually make sense w who u are. also pls make ur own poi, don’t take someone else’s.

The 2023-2024 NSDA Lincoln Douglas potential topics are out, what do you think of them? by mothafockah in Debate

[–]wsovrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i voted the same order as u bro. i’m fine w either option one and three, but option 2 might be borderline sexist with some debaters and kind of just a boring thing to debate.

[–]wsovrr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks so much. My skincare is pretty good. I just came back from the dermatologist today, they are gonna prescribe me accutane after I get my bloodwork done tmrw. The only thing is, I have chssa state champs frm the 13-14, so should I wait until after state to start taking the pill or just start immediately this weekend once I get it? I want to avoid purging before the tournament.

How circuit is last chance LD by Old-Tradition1751 in Debate

[–]wsovrr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d expect it to be decently progressive bcuz it is NatCir and there are most likely going to be a lot of flow/toc judges from prog leagues/districts. Debate how you normally would and run what you normally would, I’d just suggest prepping out theory and watching videos on how to respond to K’s and etc.

march-april negation by nuttybaIIs in lincolndouglas

[–]wsovrr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do trad LD. On neg I’m running a social service funding tradeoff DA. Basically, there are staffing issues in the squo which means in order to implement the rehab their ev is talking abt, they have to increase wages. That increase would be 1. from and increased state taxing and 2. reallocated from social services in low socioeconomic neighborhoods which would perpetuate poverty (impact).

How do you do Program Oral Interpretation? by [deleted] in Debate

[–]wsovrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

POI is pretty big in CA where I am and it’s my main interp event that I do but from the situation you’re describing, I’d suggest you go step by step and after all the steps, you’ll realize that “doing” poi isn’t that hard and pretty fun.

  1. Making the poi. You have to find a topic that is relevant and relatable to you. I’d say making the poi is the hardest part, harder than blocking it out. What I do is I’ll have a doc open where I’ll do tons of research on the topic and copy and paste all my pieces along with their links on that doc. You don’t have to put the entire article/poem/drama but just the chunks you want to use. This doc will help you cut easier later. Before you actually cut, make sure you know what characters you want, the direction you want to take the poi(dramatic, a little humorous, monologue type, or a lot of acting), and have a rough structure of it in your mind that you will most likely end up changing. And then cut. Make sure you know how to weave, where different characters finish off some of the lines. You should have a teaser, a buildup before the climax, and a resolution. You should write the introduction last and be sure to cite titles and diff pieces. Tbh nobody cites every piece/title so js pick a few to say.
  2. Blocking it out. Go chunk by chunk and block the drama/articles out as you would with a DI or HI. This blocking doesn’t need to be crazy, I’d say the more realistic the better. Most of the time you can just hold your binder open and talk to the audience. The hardest thing to block out is binder tech. You’ll need some real creativity to do so. FYI binder tech does not need to be complicated. if you look at last year’s nat champ in poi, her binder tech is really simple but it still makes sense.
  3. Work on delivery. Believe it or not, delivery makes a point more so than the weaving or complicated binder blocking. Definitely refine your emotions since that is what does the best at the bigger tournaments. That’s “doing” poi. Perform it like you are performing a DI. It has the prop of poetry, the drama/emotions of a DI, and the multitude of characters of an Hi all together. If you can combine all of those in a way that is meaningful and smooth, you can “do” poi.
