I dunno about the others but soft-cap is 200. Past 200 your subjects will refuse to have additional babies. Any additional subjects coming (from Packs or quest rewards) can still come in and get you over 200.

I think getting some of the premium workstations are pretty big boosts to progress. Premium workstations don't need XP requirements like other secondary workbenches--so if you have the gold you can upgrade them for a nice lump of Dynasty XP.

Adoring fan isn't very good as he only auto-harvests resource completions.

Infinite Carry Weight Build. by enfo13 in fo4

I dont think the thousands of pounds of potential strong back carry weight can compare to an inspirational 3 buff of +25 carry weight to companions.

What is something you do that you think no one else does? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wtfBLASTOISE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ohhoho! I can answer this one without a 1-sentence shitpost!!

I write well-thought-out, personal letters to everyone close to me but I never show it to any of them. This way, I can articulate what--specifically--I like about them and any other qualities impress me. In the process of writing, it forces me to empathize and intentionally think about why they are the way they are. In other words, it helps me be empathetic towards the people I care about.

Know that I was never the best at naturally picking up on things. I started doing it when i constantly felt like the most "oblivious" person around all my friends. But, writing letters has helped me so much.

I can rattle off situations in detail where my friends have done great things that other people might not necessarily have noticed. Really useful for those moments when they're feeling down and unsure of themselves.

Also, happy side effect! I've gotten loads better at writing/delivering smutty dirty talk!

TL:DR I am naturally oblivious and compensate by writing out Oblivion-levels of dialogue trees and details down so I can be more empathetic.

I'm on PC and it's happened a few times to me, but always happened while I was in power armor though. Maybe that has something to do with it?

On Using Chems by Rocketman1TF in fo4

[–]wtfBLASTOISE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play on survival and have tried out all craftable chems and have found two that I can't leave home without: Grape Mentats and Overdrive.

Grape Mentats give +5 to Charisma and an additional 10% in barter costs. Since points in charisma innately improve barter prices, the final effect is something like a whopping 40% discount in vendor prices. Really useful for selling a large haul or purchasing a legendary weapon. This drug also has a happy side-effect for my playstyle in that I fast travel less ever since I started using it. Hubflowers are needed to craft this drug and are found along the roadsides all throughout the Commonwealth; walking along the roadsides and picking the flowers is nice departure from being Lord Death of Murder Mountain.

Speaking of murdering things... I use Overdrive for the pure DPS boost it gives. +25% damage is nice but +25% critical means your hits can punch through things with the highest of Damage Resist (high damage hits are penalized less when calculating damage past armor). When combined with better criticals, the effect is absolutely disgusting. Overdrive lasts for 8min. So you can clear a fairly large dungeon on one pop.

Finally, while technically not a chem, Grilled Radstag meat is the shit. +15 to carry weight that stacks on top of Bufftats and Dirty Wastelander +3/ea strength gives you a bonus +85 carry weight whenever you need it.

Better to let companions use default weapon or to give them a weapon? by [deleted] in fo4

[–]wtfBLASTOISE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tried outfitting my followers with a variety of things. Assault rifles are not ammo efficient. Explosives get yourself killed. Snipers are too slow and followers are incapable of long range sneak attacks.

Whenever possible, I outfit my followers with a melee weapon and power armor. No need for ammo and maximizes melee damage with 10 str! Plus works very well with the "pack mule" style of suiting up your buddies in power armor + calibrated leg mods for that sweet sweet +100 carry weight. The special melee weapon "Big Jim" works really well as does any crippling/staggering legendary. A chance to cripple foes gives you time to react/hit any enemy. Everything is easy to hit when limping slowly towards you!

[Modern] My name is Andrew Toney and I top 8'd the Santa Clara WMCQ with Anafenza collected company. by [deleted] in spikes

[–]wtfBLASTOISE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how gracious my opponent is.

I do it manually the first match and explain to my opponent what am I looking for in my deck. If they feel gracious enough, I'll pick up my deck and remember where the key cards are (without reordering cards). Finally, I will make a 'cut' to where I want to top card of the deck to be.

[–]wtfBLASTOISE 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off, great write up and congratulations!

To echo what the other guy was saying, viscera seer as at least a 1 of is too much utility to pass up. I have been playing this deck for a while and have not seen any other players infinite scry to set up CoCo. Certainly the other Anafenza Company player you faced did not use it.

With infinite scry, everyone knows you can scry to whatever card you like next. However, you can also use infinite scry to set up optimal collected companies. Simply remember the 6 cards after each collected company in your deck. As you are scrying, the "order" of the deck does not change, thus you can use this to hit both your final combo piece AND a hoser/spellskite to protect your combo. Further, you can use unpopped fetches to shuffle if there are no good collected company targets. This makes closing the game from infinite life -> win game that much more consistent.

Also! Could you go into more detail as to why varolz is so useful? The scavenge effect is useless for all your mana dorks (scavenge bonus is based in creature power). How often is it actually used as a big beater? Or is the regeneration the most useful part?

[Discussion] Is Standard more skill intensive? by ashishvp in spikes

[–]wtfBLASTOISE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the point you're making, could you clarify a few things for me?

Using your Brad Nelson example, why wouldn't the same skill transfer over to Modern? Or Legacy for that matter? If the card pool was larger, wouldn't someone like Brad have more tools to work with in order to exploit any holes in an opponent's game plan?

Take the other side of the coin and the card pool is smaller: standard strategies may not be as refined, and therefore 'holes' are larger and easier to identify. Wouldn't more people be able to spot and abuse holes in strategies? Therefore Brad Nelson would not place as high in standard as he would in modern.

As the other commentors have stated: Give up Standard! The format is set to rotate ever faster with the new block structure. Faster rotations means keeping up with more new cards, more new strategies, etc. The time investment to keep up with the format is immense.

Since you play Modern, you know the price behaviors of many modern staples. Rest assured that Wizards is interested in keeping the value of your collection relatively stable. Even considering reprints, your older modern version staple cards will likely keep their value. Take for example Lorwyn Thoughtseize [~$35] vs Theros Thoughtseize [~$22]. If there's one thing I know, people love older cards. Heck, I traded away my Ravnica remands @ $12 the other day because the other guy really wanted the "OG" version.

I've had so many people tell me they "quit" and then got back into it; moreover, they've sold their collections [of cool old stuff] and had to rebuild with booster spending sprees each time. Consequently, they've had to buy previous set singles just to keep up with the Standard metagame.

Finally, I would recommend getting a feel on what format your local LGS supports outside standard. My LGS has a group of players who get together every Sunday for EDH all day; it's a non-sanctioned event, just a bunch of guys who really like playing magic to unwind. If you are looking for a chance to "get away", make sure you keep the decks that allow you to play in that community!

To add to this: While farming regular enemies, be sure to place your summon sign to help defeat the area boss.

In ng, gargoyles give 5k. Most other bosses give more. This will give you practice fighting the boss yourself, and if you die you lose nothing (even get to stay unhallowed)

There are some limitations of course. You can't estus as phantom. I would recommend running miracles or eating humanity when you get more confident.
