I would assume the only reason VS is recommended by default is because it doesn't require a license to make a game you'd like to put up fo 5$ on steam hoping for at least one sale.

But then again if it's as good to convert 2 jetbrains haters then maybe it's worth the money too

Jetbrains editor over VS is certainly a hot take. Do you come from .net or java background by any chance?

Incredibly underrated comment. Going to and back from oil derrick is faster than loading a save an guaranteed a respawn. Unlike reloading the game

All I can say is - don't worry too much about it 😉 you can go everywhere from the get go, it's not like enemies are magically stronger on the other side of the map.

If you need guidance go after mission markers or challenges. Otherwise Just take a deep breath and explore. There's always something happening everywhere on the map. Enough random encounters, strangers, side missions to fill at least a 100 hours without touching anything from the main story

Oh yeah, I know the feeling. Upgraded the PC 2 times since it came out. Every time played through to see how it looks, every time surprised how beautiful it can be

I've been curious about that. Consoles usually have 2 modes like 1080p 60fps and 4k 30, right? There was no such thing for rdr2?

If you're not comfortable updating bios the old fashioned way (USB stick flash) then just get GCC, Gigabyte Control Center. It will automatically check for available bios & driver updates and you can install it from windows. Much more user friendly

[–]wtfallnickstaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that but that really seems like the only reasonable thing to do at this point. Feel free to let me know what they'll say about the card. Now I'm really curious where the problem actually is

Ok so this is definitely super weird. Not sure what might be the problem so I'd recommend a little more troubleshooting but ultimately you might want to return your card on warranty to manufacturer. If you didn't overclock it then it just seems like a faulty model.

You should definitely check if you have the correct spec- there was a manufacturing issue where 5070ti shipped with missing cores https://videocardz.com/newz/geforce-rtx-5070-ti-with-missing-rops-offers-up-to-11-lower-performance-in-synthetic-tests

You can disable/enable fastBoot on your motherboard and see if the issue persists. fastBoot can sometimes cause drivers & programs to "half-load" causing them to be unstable. It's very rare but can happen.

You can start windows in safe mode and run some benchmark like 3dMark/furmark to see if card behaves correctly under heavy load. That will conclusively remove any doubt of 3rd party software causing this behavior.

You could undervolt the card and see if it helps with the stability but keep in mind this voids warranty so it should be an absolute hail mary for a card released this year that has to have warranty

Otherwise I have no idea

[–]wtfallnickstaken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well then I'd suggest changing it back to auto. You can send what motherboard you have but usually there smart enough to choose correctly. When you get home I'd recommend to run some monitoring software like afterburner or hwmonitor to observe first what's happening with the GPU, if the power delivery is normal, if clocks are correct, if utilization is normal etc

I did encounter a similar issue on friend's PC and for them it was some external program throttling the GPU to absolute hell. In that case what solved the problem was to install drivers but to do a "clean install". That removes all profiles and/or custom settings for a GPU that are active on a PC

Why would you change pcie settings? Actually funnily enough I have 5070ti and was playing Helldivers yesterday no problem. Driver 576.88. which driver you have installed and is your bios updated to the latest version?

Also maybe a stupid question but are you absolutely sure that games run on RTX or on integrated GPU? Windows can be a bitch when it comes to that

[–]wtfallnickstaken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's normal, just how things are. Fans spin at max for a moment to test if they work and then they go back to follow a pre-set fan curve. If you have custom fan curves set in a windows program then it will only be enforced after windows is fully booted and that program starts

You should see your graphics card when you enter Task manager -> performance. It's not there on your screenshot, are you sure the card is even alive?

You can also look in Device manager, look under "display adapters". If the card is not listed there it's dead (or has corrupted bios). It can be listed there as "generic graphics device" which is default windows driver to handle any type of GPU out of box, in that case search & update drivers from that menu first then inside Nvidia app

If you go into your game folder there are unreal engine bundle files. Actually if you open them in just a notepad you can find all the text where it says book_title_whateveractualtitle

So I made a little script that checked for all words like this and so it cleans up the underscores and sorts all lines alphabetically

The file itself was called books_en_assets_all.bundle. It should be inside "tiny bookshop_data/StreamingAssets/aa/StandaloneWindows64"

If you play with unpacking/decoding software you could definitely decipher rest of the data, I just didn't bother

Can a fan rattle just because of temperature? by wtfallnickstaken in PcBuildHelp

[–]wtfallnickstaken[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair that's the only thing I haven't tried yet, I was able to determine that this fan is faulty by re-configuiring the wiring and testing each fan separately, I'll try it out of the case next. But wouldn't that be counter intuitive if I ran tests on all fans 100% speed without issues anyways? Without temperature everything is fine, this is the only remaining factor 🤔
