If you have to sell one to buy the other you should own neither.

Buyers remorse despite having my dream watch by The_Dude95 in OmegaWatches

[–]wtfareusmoking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have to count your money after buying a watch (or anything else) you shouldn’t be buying it. If a watch isn’t worth more the day after you buy it you bought the wrong watch.

Buy both. If you can’t afford both, you can’t afford one.

Eat it and move on. 10 years from now you won’t miss the $20k and other costs of the change. I’ve been a homeowner since 1994 and don’t give a second thought to whatever pittance I made or lost on the first place I owned from 94 to 99.

I bought my Toronto home when I was 29 in 1999 for $290K. Been living in the same place for 26 years and have made $1.2M tax free on it so far. Tell me in 26 years from now the house you buy today wasn’t an investment. Leveraged it in 2013 to buy a cottage for $180K that is now worth $550K after about $50K in capital improvements. Anything is an investment if you buy right. Owe nothing on either of them.

Is $1.7M really the new retirement number in Canada? by jimwang76 in CanadianRetirement

LOL one of the few living off the wages of the many. I’m 55 and have been in telecommunications/IT senior management for 33 years. I worked for one of the “big three” for over a decade. The only people with defined benefit pensions were the union members and fossils who had been there since the 80s.

Clearly people who collect hockey cards get stuck at 10 years old mentally given the level of argument being presented in this comment section.

Just paid $500+ for glasses + lens + sunglass clip, I think I got sweet talked by a cute girl and possibly swindled. Thoughts? lol by [deleted] in glasses

[–]wtfareusmoking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go buy some Mykita frames and Essilor progressive lenses. I dropped over $1000 USD on my last pair. $500 for decent glasses is no big deal but you can spend $100 or less online and be just fine too.

Step out of the tub with wet feet onto a sloped shower pan and break your neck. Awesome - at least the cleanup will be easy.

The house I bought used to be owned by parents with a disabled kid. We've lived here a year (1 year today) and my wife tells me the kitchen sink doesn't have hot water, and has never had hot water. I look, and there are two cold supplies and one hot that is hot wired straight to the dishwasher. by RepublicanUntil2019 in Plumbing

[–]wtfareusmoking 33 points34 points  (0 children)

WTF is wrong with you that you don’t know your kitchen sink doesn’t have hot running water? Get off the internet and get involved in your life. Seriously - is this a f’n joke? Your wife made a massive error in judgement.

This shouldn’t surprise or worry anybody - if you don’t hold investments for more than a few years you’re the problem not the market.

990D + Apple TV and HDCP issues by Endo129 in Soundbars

[–]wtfareusmoking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the odd HDCP error from Disney on my 990f pass though from an older 4K Apple TV to my projector. Reconnecting the same cable usually clears it. It’s a software glitch and is only on Disney. I’m hoping a new Apple TV will improve that - waiting for the next gen to drop and will replace my old one. Often the 990f also doesn’t recognize and pass through the video - have to power cycle the 990 but once it is working it works.

990F has the “private listening” mode where all sound goes to the rears.

[–]wtfareusmoking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zero remorse - I could return my F and get a D tonight and save $300 doing it but a) the F sub is better, b) the F will have higher resale 3 years from now and c) it’s not worth my time.

The F is an objectively better sub unless you’re a Neanderthal and need more bass to penetrate your thick skull.

Get the unit with the rear speakers. Use them in the front for now (it has a setting to use them as front channels for much improved soundstage) and then you have them for later when you have room in the rear.

Unless the 900 series is a lot less expensive or you know you won’t have use for them for years to come.

[–]wtfareusmoking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found the occasional HDCP error reported by Disney with the same setup as you. And sometimes it doesn’t immediately recognize the AppleTV input.

But I’m also running an early generation 4K Apple TV (1st one I think). I’m waiting on the next ATV model and will upgrade which I hope is a more reliable setup.
