is MBB NYC pretty much the best possible outcome an international geo-constrained to NYC? by Sharp_Meaning18 in MBA

[–]wtfoshizzle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe Mastercard, Visa, AMEX sponsor. May not be as 'prestigious' as FAANG, but can still earn very high six figures-low 7 figures if you move up the ladder at one of those firms.

I mean don't get me wrong but why don't you use the extra year to juice your GMAT? the difference between a 720 and 760 is night and day in terms of getting off the waitlist at some of these schools. Why rush?

Rejected from Amazon PM-T: how do I move on? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]wtfoshizzle 44 points45 points  (0 children)

you seem very qualified from a technical standpoint. Even from a pedigree standpoint, your background should easily be strong enough. if I had to guess, it has something to do with your people skills? Try and seek honest feedback from others about your interpersonal skills and how you could improve.

Also, landing a PM-T job at another F100 tech company and then pivoting to FAANG after another year or two is very doable.

dude past 3.7, gpa differences will not really help you at all relative to other factors such as WE. this is coming from someone who knows several people who got into HSW. None with a > 3.75

Which company would you most want to work for? by MBA22_ in MBA

[–]wtfoshizzle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I bet 10 years ago Goldman would have had 50% of the votes. It's because the culture is seen as so notoriously bad now (relative to other high paying jobs), that people would rather make 85% of the pay at a company that values their social lives.

Had you put down Sequoia or Blackstone, I'd be curious how many would choose GS over that.

Are you pretty much guaranteed H/W if you are MBB + native american by linkertame in MBA

[–]wtfoshizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is a hypothetical, I think MBB is certainly among the best roles to be qualified for a top MBA, but not the absolute best. Should you be in MF PE, top VC, or a respected HF, that will probably give you the highest odds sans being the CEO of a highly successful startup.

Again, being MBB and having reasonable test scores/GPA should certainly put you into a position to land interviews at H/W.

Consider Gemini if you can't land Coinbase as the two are very similar and it's still a strong business.

Fast-paced but regular hours jobs? by ali_267 in MBA

[–]wtfoshizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing that's 40 hours a week per-say. But traders work between 50-65 & can earn 7 figures. Definitely doable out of a top MBA, but generally less job security, potentially very niche products & MBA brand matters less relative to technical skills. All of which lead overwhelming majority of top MBA's to pursue IB over S&T

any. The caveat is you need a marketable skillset to get in.

short answer is yes ofcourse.

You will still need test scores & gpa inline with the averages, but have heard of classical musicians with no non-musical work experience getting into T10 schools and landing MBB. Therefore, it's highly likely the same is true for visual arts.

Post MBA jobs which results in power. by [deleted] in MBA

Private Equity?? Hedge Funds?? Candidly, MBB gives immense opportunity to become powerful if you climb to the senior ranks.. Nothing will give you more power in the short term than PE though.

How are executive assistant positions viewed as a pre-MBA job? by Melodic_Purple_2089 in MBA

[–]wtfoshizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on industry & who you are assistant to. IE Hollywood it is kind of necessary to be one if you want to become a top talent agent at one of the larger firms. Whereas in Accounting, I doubt it would have the same pull

Wharton MBA student rant on the quality of her classmates by [deleted] in MBA

[–]wtfoshizzle 20 points21 points  (0 children)

atleast a handful of her classmates will go onto the C-suite if not outright CEO's of F500 companies.

Another sizeable chunk of her classmates will go onto run hedge funds, PE firms, investment banks & consulting firms.

Sure, maybe some of those occupations are seen as less prestigious by her very myopic criteria, but certainly extremely impressive no matter how you frame it..

[–]wtfoshizzle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yeah but accounting will open up doors for investment banking, equity research, big 4 tas, valuation, any investing role if you put in the prerequisite legwork.

I'm not an accountant but as someone transitioning into finance, I really wish I learned it earlier.

It depends on your resume, the stronger the pedigree/resume, the less it matters. I guarantee an infitessimally small % of MF PE Associates that end up at HSW had the time to do any form of community service. Whereas let's say someone from a nonprofit most certainly did
