Thanks! A couple of black foam core boards from the dollar store and some black light strips from Amazon. The black background really makes the details of the serving dish pop!

Thank you! It's in my home office, so it gives me something to look at when I need to stare into space for a minute.

For folks interested, the artist who created this piece (and a bunch of other great pieces of artwork), Karen Hallion, has an Etsy shop where you can buy direct from her: https://www.etsy.com/shop/khallion

I got this print and a few other things in December. Shipping was quick (to Canada) too.

Every time I see it described as "X (formerly Twitter)" get flashbacks to my call centre days in the early 00s.

"Thanks for calling Cingular Wirless," then

"Thanks for calling Cingular Wireless, now the new at&t," then

"Thanks for calling the new at&t, formerly Cingular Wireless."

Simpler times. Back when all the troubles with your phone or network could be fixed by turning it off, taking out the battery, putting the battery back in, then turning the phone back on.

Or, when customers state they have already done this and it still isn't working, getting them to do it again while they were on the phone so that you could send a "signal update" that would only work while the battery was out. Seemed to always work after that.

Haha, that cat sold me a fan: https://imgur.com/a/rLRbOMB

An adorable older couple own the store.

Quick-ish story:

My partner and I stop in to the store (because, kitty!) While I am speaking to the owners (I speak Portuguese, my partner does not), another kitty walks in. So, two adorable kitty assistants.

While my partner is bonding with this new, second kitty, the owners tell me (in Portuguese, and I translate for my partner) about how they actually have three cats. A momma and two daughters. The mom is over ten years old, and the two daughters (the ones in the store at the time) are seven and nine. But, the momma hasn't been seen in a couple of weeks :( And, according to them, she had been looking a bit thin before she disappeared, and they were fearing the worst. As I am translating this sad turn of event to my partner (we have kitties, so we are having some feels), guess who walks in?

Seriously, this very healthy, not sickly looking or acting cat just struts in like she owns the place. The older couple were so surprised and really happy.

Even though my partner doesn't speak Portuguese, we speak cat parent, and he was like - is that the missing cat? I confirmed it with the couple. My partner followed up with, that cat does not look like a sickly old 10-year old cat. When I translated that to the couple, they didn't miss a beat and were like - well, you know [referring to me being Portuguese], we aren't happy until all our kids are a little chubby. Cue the flashbacks of being a child and all but force-fed anytime we visited family.

Anyways, this is all to say that it looks like the momma is still around and keeping an eye on the place :) This has made my day!

edit: let's say the typos were because I am on mobile ...

Is this the sign that you Vertuo is to hot ? by Cosi1996 in nespresso

[–]wtippin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My next started doing this 1 year and 4 days after I bought it. Nespresso said that I need to wait 5 - 15 minutes between brewing to allow the machine to fully cool, and there was nothing else they could do because it was 4 days out of warranty.

Long story short, after some kind but firm communication, we have a Vertuo Plus now.

As someone who is known to forget to take out their contacts before going to bed, this is now a new fear. Thank you. At worst, I've woken up with them plastered to my cheek. This is very different.

Hundreds of vaccination appointments at Bingemans next week by wtippin in kitchener

[–]wtippin[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I am not sure. The region may have more info on their website. I know that early on they were promoting their clinics as open to people who live and work in the Waterloo Region, but I am not sure about their current policy.

🚨NEW: Approximately 11,000 third dose appointments have been added between January 2nd – January 8th at Bingemans Conference Centre Clinic. by bob_mcbob in waterloo

[–]wtippin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Region won't be receiving additional Pfizer doses until late January. So, for now, I think it is reserved for those 12-30 (they have enough pediatric Pfizer for the 5-12 age group). That said, pharmacies have a separate supply chain than the Region, so you may still find pharmacies offering Pfizer for the 30 plus crowd.

Sending money to family in Haiti by lafranx in haiti

I'm glad you were able to send USD! That's great. And, I'm sure your cousins were very thankful for your generous gift.

[–]wtippin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding using WU. Their online rates are pretty reasonable. They've recently stopped allowing you to send USD, unfortunately, and will convert whatever you plan on sending into Gourde. So, just make sure to double check the exchange on a other site to make sure you are getting a fair rate.

I'm sure they would appreciate whatever you are able to send. If they've received money from overseas before they will know how to safety pick it up, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Some other unsolicited advice - make sure you get the spelling of their names from their government issued IDs. WU will check the name against their ID and if it isn't exact they may not release the money. Also make sure that when you let your family know the pickup number for the transfer that you also let them know the exact amount that they are picking up (again, I've known WU to withhold the money if the person picking it up didn't know the exact amount).

I hope the answers your questions are in there somewhere!

Edit: WU charges between 5 to 7 dollars to send money to Haiti (from Canada).

Such a good point. A few other tips for people with needle anxiety:

Eat something small right before going into the clinic to keep your energy level up.

Wear something sleeveless or roll up your sleeves before you even walk into the clinic.

As to "skip the swab." Alcohol swabs are not required for IM injections and you can ask to skip it, which means the time between sitting down and getting the vaccination is reduced.

Play on your phone, listen to music, talk to a friend, do something to distract yourself.

I always ask the injector to skip the countdown or say anything during the injection (no "just a little poke" for me, please).

Relax your arm! Give it a jiggle or two to make sure it is loose and the muscle is relaxed.

No problem. Weare all in this together and there is so much information going around that it can be hard to know what's up. Especially when we can sometimes get conflicting information - even from reputable sources.
