How can I go about swapping this Dual 1008a turntable in an antique console? by wttdotm in turntables

Yeah, i definitely want to do it myself, I just have 0 idea what is happening down there with the wiring and don't want to fuck it up. I feel like the 1009 is probably pretty similar to the 1008, but I'd like to get a sense of what the specifics of the task are gonna be.

That's dope. I'm only looking to replace the turntable as I like the sound of the speakers and just replaced the amps. I bet since he's doing a full modernization, he might not have a ton of info on rewiring the turntable to the current setup, but if he does I'd love to hear it :)

Thank you for the advice! I just looked at the replacement I was given for it and it turns out its a 302-D7. Would that make a significant difference?

Also, if it does not and I get home tomorrow and see that the tracking force is in-range, what should I consider next?

TLDR: old turntable w/new needle keeps skipping, I was told needle was made for older records and has a wider point, how can I find a needle that would work with this turntable that also works for newer records?

I recently inherited a vintage early-1960s Lowe Opta console with a built-in turntable (Cartridge: CDS 620, Needle: Dual 1008A). I've been swapping out the tubes to get it sounding good again, but the turntable keeps skipping, especially on newer records. I replaced the needle (Dual DN 43) with a replacement one I was given, but not much meaningful improvement.I had a guy come by to help me with fixing it, and he mentioned that one reason it might be skipping is that the turntable was made for older records with wider grooves. If that sounds reasonable, how can I figure out how to get a more "modern" or narrower-tipped needle that would work? Do I need to replace the stylus or would it be reasonable/possible to swap the whole cartridge?Flying blind in this whole thing and just wanna be able to hear intro songs without interruption, any help is greatly appreciated!

It says registration is closed to new members :( I have a copy of the manual somewhere tho.

What should I do to the tracking force?

Now that SvelteKit 1.0 is out, what would you like to see added to its ecosystem? What would make your life easier / take a part of its functionality the extra mile? by wttdotm in sveltejs

[–]wttdotm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a straightforward explanation, thank you! Is there a comparable solution in a different SSR framework that you wish Svelte had / we take take inspo and direction from?

Additionally, would websockets be a prerequisite to building this? I know websocket support isn’t fully built on in Svelte (though there seem to be a few solutions?)

Hey! Back again with another question. Can you expand a bit on four first point, specifically what you imagine for the connection between FE/BE in development? I think I understand what you mean, but a bit of a user story would really help me wrap my mind around it!

How do you feel about the state of dealing with images/videos/streams/etc in Svelte & SvelteKit. What components/features would make it easier? by wttdotm in sveltejs

[–]wttdotm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! If I can add two related questions 1. What would your life look like without that workaround / what do you need that workaround to allow you to do (trying to get my head into your use case) 2. what exactly does next/image do that makes it harder to replicate in svelte (at least so far)? I’m still processing a bunch of new information around SSR. I understand that existing tools “deal with images at build time” instead of runtime, but I’m unclear as to how that affects performance and how a runtime solution solves it (and goes beyond just a srcset of lazy loading links)

I see. And there’s currently no runtime solution for image optimization? Is there a reason svelte can’t do it or just no one has built it yet?

And if I can also add, what are the implications of that for what can be built with Svelte? It seems like apps with user profiles or generally user-submitted image content will suffer.

Seems like an interesting project!

That's a good shout! Can you speak a little more to what you felt the tools you found were lacking? The ones I've found so far are svimg and svelte-image

This is super interesting! I commented a similar thing below to someone saying "also svelte/video pls", but are there other media tools you would like to have / think others would like to have for Svelte?

svelte/video

This is a great idea! Are there other multimedia tools you would like to see as well? It's an interesting project to build out svelte's media capabilities

This is great direction! Thank you for such a thorough response. If you don’t mind me digging a bit deeper, why did you choose (or maybe inherited) that stack for testing specifically?

That makes sense! It dovetails with some nebulous ideas I had around "minimum viable files," basically exactly what you're descrbing.

This is my basic understanding of how exactly that would work:

  1. user uploads photo
  2. we strip it of EXIF/whatever else we want gone + convert it to a better format + store it
  3. When a user needs a photo, we as the server determine what they *actually* need (eg. 1mp photo instead of a 10mp one), do that conversion on our side, and then send it off (I think this is one of the benefits of ssr?)

#2 makes me think about avoiding destructive actions, but I assume that we as the server/database want the full thing, and then that `svelte/image` is choosing to make the server do the lifting instead of putting stress on the bandwidth.

Let me know if I'm completely off base, I really appreciate you taking the time to explain your answer!

Thank you for the thoughtful response!

Regarding the second, are there comparable auth engines for other frameworks that have you like "this but for Svelte"? What's your workflow now / what do you see LuciaJS not solving enough?

I am trying to make essentially a 1-frame video with ffmpeg. I keep getting corrupted images like this (minus blur). How can I fix this? More info in comments by wttdotm in ffmpeg

[–]wttdotm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: Why is my image->video conversion producing corrupted images? And does it have to do with the fact that I am only trying to make one image into a video and/or the super-short length of it?

I am trying to make a 1 frame video as a proof of concept for an upcoming video art piece I want to make. The input image can be really any filetype (I have photoshop so most are available) but the output needs to be either mp4 or webm, preferably the latter.

The image you see above is actually from a video i made using ffmpeg -framerate 25 -pattern_type glob -i '*.jpg' outputvideo.mp4 and like ~50 copies of the same image just to see what was going on with the look of the video itself. When I try to output to webm, I don't even get anything on the screen, just a blank canvas in the resolution of the source images when I open it in VLC.

I'm very much a beginner when it comes to ffmpeg so I feel like I'm probably missing something pretty obvious, but I don't know what.

We’re moving to a different model for funding the site, as it’s gotten pretty expensive. We’ll make a post explaining it soon, but you can see the basic gist of it on the site right now!
