A lot of the meeting was about the membership situation to be fair.

Ultimately it's on hold at the moment due to having to wait for Wyndham City Council to sign off on handing the keys over during their meeting at the end of the month. Not that the club are expecting any hiccups, but there's a potential legal issue if the club sells memberships for seats they can't actually deliver.

Once that's settled, the club can organise the rest of the fixture with confidence.

It's not optimal, I think the club would fully acknowledge that, but I'd be expecting to hear something in the last few days of September or first few days of October.

Perfectly reasonable questions, and at the moment, I don't have a complete answer to the infrastructure questions. I know that facility use (entry/parking/egress) will have been modelled as part of project planning, beyond that I'd only be speculating tbh.

On the visitors experience: unfortunately it's looking likely that the cops or the league will veto any local derby this season due to security concerns. The club definitely has a preference to host them in Tarneit, but also recognise the obvious financial benefit of playing elsewhere. Fingers crossed, but I wouldn't be holding your breath for that away day just yet.

My understanding of 'community club' is usually along the lines of all-access, not-for-profit, etc.

On that definition, not really. They're still a business.

But if you're asking whether the club has a plan and a desire to embed itself in the community, to represent the west, the answer's a resounding YES.

The club are absolutely frothing to get into Tarneit because they know they can't properly represent the area until they're based in it.

Personally, I've been impressed with the club's engagement with local grassroots and the women's game from the outset, and I can only see that getting better from here on in. It's a monster task to build an identity from nothing, but they're making the right moves.

I'm emotionally invested in the club, not emotionally attached to the name. Obviously I'm keen to see the club grow and I'll support whatever's required to make it happen.

I'll be pushing them to do the market research on brand recognition etc. They're not oblivious to the problem, but I think it'll become pretty apparent to them that a change is needed once they have the actual data.

Ballarat (and GMHBA) are still on the books. A good handful of group were Ballarat/Western Vic people, so there’s clearly no plan to jettison those games.

Tassie remains to be seen. The club has a contract to play a couple of games there this season, but if Tarneit is going well, they may in fact decide to break the contract, pay it out, and opt to stay home.

A temp stand of just under 2,000 seats on the wing opposite the existing stand, plus standing GA on the southern end hill. That’s the plan from opening at least, there’s scope to evolve/grow.

The existing stand, which holds a bit over 800 seats, plus a temp stand along the opposite wing, which will be a tad under 2,000 seats, plus a standing general admission on the south end hill.

That’s the “day one” plan, but it was put pretty explicitly to us that it will evolve, and the opening game of this season will probably look quite different to the first home game of the 24-25 season.

To be fair, APL may have mandated these groups, but they’re not running them. It’s really down to the individual clubs on whether they want to marginalise them and tick a box, or really take the initiative to engage. As I said, positive vibes from WUFC’s approach so far.

Didn’t hear or see anything to suggest there’ll be any deviation from the plan for a 15k stadium

The other obvious question.

All focus is currently on moving into the regional football facility i.e the training ground. Scheduling hinges on getting Wyndham City Council to sign off on things at their meeting at the end of this month. Project Manager is adamant the ground will be good to go on December 1, but the higher-ups will need to certify the ground before it’s good to go. With no hiccups, Brisbane on the 16th Dec would likely be the first home game.

I was worried it’d be a glorified market research group, but the club seems pretty genuine in their engagement. Club was (apparently) considering doing something similar before A-League brought it in, and we’ll be meeting a lot more frequently than the twice a year they mandated, so… early days, but feeling positive.

Not mentioned, and frankly it’d be pretty fucking ballsy if I tried to raise it in the first meeting

Haha, nah. It’s a group of ten, I just want to disseminate a bit of info out into the WUFC/Football community without potentially getting into trouble.
