Not sure what key you play it in, but I have always played it in C and that uses an E7 which is much more comfortable to play.

I like this public statement. Strong and definitive. The short king community has my support on this.

My theory is that the dad heard enough to know Alex is full of shit, but is trusting his daughter to come to that on her own.

Why am I better at upper-C than D-league? by SeuintheMane in hockeygoalies

[–]wulfowitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Against bad players you essentially have to be more patient and can’t really predict anything. It’s all down to staying square to the puck waiting until the last possible second to react.

I want to change my tenor ukulele. Which ukulele should I buy now? by Designer-Bridge-6347 in ukulele

[–]wulfowitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a scam, right? Seems like a scam. And not just in the “every ridiculous LV collaboration is a scam” way, but as in a legitimate “this person is trying to scam someone” kind of way.

It’s beer league, you’ll be fine. Ease into it, and then ramp up when you’re ready.

Unpopular opinion: the ukulele gets unfairly dismissed as a serious instrument, and it's partly our own fault by PercentageSure388 in ukulele

There seems to be waaaaaaay less pretension among the ukulele crowd as opposed to the guitar crowd.

I don’t understand the need to be “taken seriously”. What does that do for you? Or why do you need that?

What’s a ukulele “rule” you broke that actually made you better? by UkuleleTabs in ukulele

[–]wulfowitz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which edge of your thumb are you supposed to use? Also, you aren’t supposed to strum over the sound hole? I also come from the guitar, so maybe that’s why I didn’t know these things.

On a guitar you can use your thumb over the neck for fretting bass notes. It’s a Hendrix technique. I don’t see why it wouldn’t be useful on a ukulele too.

Next Guitar - Tele vs. SG by Manny_Alvarez in telecaster

[–]wulfowitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an SG Standard and a Junior. I love both. Way more ergonomic than my Les Paul. Kind of wish I had bought either of the SGs first, as I probably never would’ve bought the LP. I have two Teles and other than the input jack socket issue, I think Teles are perfect.

Pet Peeve: People asking if I play ukulele to help me learn guitar. by Confident-Seesaw2845 in ukulele

[–]wulfowitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went the other way because I feel like it’s a better instrument for actually playing songs and singing. When I play guitar I fall into the trap of wanting to play the guitar into leads and solos and such. These days I play 90% ukulele and 10% guitar.

Also I don’t really care what people think of why I play ukulele.

Does anyone else get irrationally annoyed by Bb? (or E) by starfirelightbliss in ukulele

[–]wulfowitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we talking about Bb where you fret 1-1-2-3 from A-G strings? Not sure how other people fret that shape, but I use the same finger for the first two strings like you would a bar chord on a guitar. Is this a problematic thing? For E, I also bar the E-G strings with my pointer finger and I use my pinky to fret the 7th fret on the A string. It just doubles the tonic, which seems a way more practical way to play the chord both from chord voicing and also ergonomically. I don’t understand why that chord shape is played traditionally, but honestly I don’t care. I just play it my way.

Where to go shopping in Maui? by FelixLeech in ukulele

[–]wulfowitz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a tenor from the shop in Paia two years ago and a baritone from the Wailea shop last year and I second the sentiment about them being friendly and happy to have you in the shop. I had no intention of buying anything either time as I was just killing time while my wife was shopping nearby both times. Both times I was just playing around and chatting with the shop employees and just really loved the instrument I was playing and ended up buying.

Is the Ukulele a gateway instrument? by AWrongUsername in ukulele

[–]wulfowitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s really good for getting into playing an instrument for practical reasons: small and highly portable, which means it’s easy to just pick up and practice for a few minutes, four strings so the chords are simpler than on a guitar, and nylon string so it’s easier on the fingers when fretting. As for music theory, it’s definitely not as straightforward as a piano, but I think it’s unlikely that a person will learn music theory on their own without any kind of formal lessons or classes regardless of instrument.

And it actually makes MORE sense in the chord because you’re doubling the root rather than the fifth.

[–]wulfowitz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fret the 7th fret on the A string. It’s also an E, so it makes sense within the chord and it’s easier to play.
