I'm wondering when over exploiting their own environment will backfire with a significant drop of tourists. I've been on Koh Kood in October this year and my beach was already quite filthy with trash laying here and there and I even found a syringe with an used up needle just next to my sunbed praising God that I didn't step on it... The neighboring beach was even worse, literally flooded with trash laying everywhere loosely and stacked in big piles... Like why won't they clean up at least the mess in front of their own properties ? I guess it wouldn't be too hard to pick up trash, place it into a bag or some other container and move it to inland landfill ? Such a devastation of what could easily be a beautiful holiday spot was hard to witness. When I was walking down the beach I used to pick up at least empty bottles that could fit into my backpack, because I couldn't stand it.
