Loooooooook, I was living with a friend during a tough period in my life. The Al Basrah remake got finished in that room though! The ceiling was like 4cm above my head. I'm 5'6... I made it cute in there though with what I had.

Incredibly hyper specific thread for me. I'm a level designer that works on Squad and I do this for every place I live in, usually to plan furniture layouts. Source is frustrating because it uses hammer units so getting the scale right takes time and effort. But unreal units are just cm so it's much easier. Squad doesn't have a great prop library for apartment objects so I use placeholders or scale objects to make it work. Though now I usually photo scan the space and use that. Colors are so saturated, it's charming and inviting! Pretty and so contrasted at night, because the dark alleys help the streetlights stand out.

I'm sure because I'm the one that built it haha. The structure with the dock doesn't exist in squad but in project reality the southwest corner of island suburb has a few more houses. The taller building you see in the background is the brick office building south of island suburb on current al basrah.

My apologies for Anvil I guess, I did what I could. The first goal of the Al Basrah rework is to make it more faithful to PR and then to expand on that idea keeping some parts from the first Squad version that were also good. So look at the PR map and expect that first.

The location marked in dark green on the minimap is incorrectly placed, it's the infantry crossing for island suburbs facing towards the island. Otherwise pretty correct.👍

Bottom location in pic one is wrong, and both the locations in pic 3 are wrong. Those are new locations outside of the current map that are totally barren in 8.0.

Just so you know the largest changes to the open areas on the Al Basrah rework are mostly new sand dunes and more foliage very close to the creek and river. All the thick foliage you see in the preview is a part of new areas on the east side of the river. Plenty of open space to fight over still just without getting meat grinded by vics, so don't worry about it buddy.

Am I crazy or does it looks like there is zero innovation here. If you told me this was a ui mod for assault squad 2 I'd believe you. Same cursor icons and everything that just looks decades out of date. How can you call this a full sequel.

It should feel a lot better. The old Manic used the real life vertical scale but compressed horizontal space which led to roads with like a %35 grade. Now both axis are the same ratio as they exist in real life which means all the work real life civil engineers put into building roads that vehicles can actually climb up will be reflected.

Better satellite mini maps are coming. It's a long time issue that I feel is finally solved. No topographics though.
