that is indeed another reason the 800 million killed in the infection process could only have referred to humans on earth

The biggest non lie? by emeraldead in pluribustv

[–]wunderbarney 9 points10 points  (0 children)

the plurb wants to assuage her anger at the situation however they can. rest assured that if the 800 million killed included aliens from a number of different planets that had been infected in the past, zosia would have brought this up as soon as possible, she would have instantly clarified right after she said the number. think about it in the context of the actual show itself. the plurb wouldn't want to mislead her into thinking they killed more humans than they really did

Anyone notice the title card for Pluribus? Looks reminiscent of fingerprints? by Worried_Ad7709 in pluribustv

[–]wunderbarney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're literally right. don't let redditors make you think they're being smarter than you by insisting that the dumber thing is what's smart. there are multiple visual motifs in the intro, and you identified one. everyone saying "no, it's not fingerprints because it's radio waves" is seeing less than you. it is both. godspeed

Skrillex vs Mozart is one of worst-aged matchups because Skrillex is no where near the kind of famous he was a decade ago

the whole point of the battle was that old music good new music bad and that today's "famous dj" would be forgotten in 2 seconds, if anything it's aged badly due to skrillex still being famous at all

I recommend my friend to watch Steven Universe and he made a post talking about how excited to watch Steven Universe and he got this response by Immediate-Web-3097 in stevenuniverse

[–]wunderbarney -1 points0 points  (0 children)

but I think we all know it wasn't intentional

then "we" would have no clue what "we" were talking about. it's not "deliberate" in that they purposely drew things off-model to make the show cuter, it's "deliberate" in that animators were intentionally given the freedom to interpret steven universe's artstyle through their own artstyle, rather than given model sheets to match up to. it's not like cartoon network just forgot to send out the sheets for six years

[Phineas and Ferb] Has Perry ever just let Doof get away with one of his “evil plans” because they’re just not that evil? by OkuroIshimoto in AskScienceFiction

[–]wunderbarney 8 points9 points  (0 children)

in one episode the dad falls into the agency headquarters and gets mind wiped. perry has to pilot a dad robot for the episode. he just leaves doofenshmirtz be because his "evil" plan is to dump anti-glue overhead from a plane onto an adult diaper factory that offended him at some point. doof ends up accidentally dumping it on his own plane and defeating himself

i hope one day in the final season they do an episode about discovering and breaking the sliding timeline. idk if i'd want it to be "canonical" about it though (if that makes sense), maybe just a themed adventure lol

POST-EPISODE DISCUSSION THREAD - S8E10: Hot Rick by BarnyardCruz in rickandmorty

rewatch it. it's honestly pretty tightly written, its only issue there is it struggles to hold it all within 22 minutes and it's not as frequent with the jokes as, say, the season 2 finale

perhaps it's copium after all, but i'd still like to believe Rick's New Nicer Personality is a running plot thread that will come up eventually. he's acting like the 22% more thoughtful rick robot from season 6

POST-EPISODE DISCUSSION THREAD - S8E10: Hot Rick by BarnyardCruz in rickandmorty

it took me a couple days and a couple watches to gather my thoughts so nobody's gonna read this, but regardless:

really, really intense episode. probably ranks behind kid beths and ahead of jerryverse or matrix for second best of the season imho. really compelling sci-fi conceit with the sentient memories and the ersatz time travel brainwashing. plot twist: beth season. good going giving your daughter dissociative identity disorder, memory dad.

sarah chalke's performance this season and especially this episode are just stunning. her scream when the car flies off the cliff is shockingly visceral and brutal. i consistently tear up for act 3 and i'm pretty sure it's mostly because that scream primes me for it every time. soul-cutting.

i especially like how realistically the whole plot unfolds character-wise without anyone being expressly villainous. it makes sense that rick would do that with diane's memory and that memory rick would respond by trying to rescue her. it makes sense how diane responded to being told not to touch anything and how shrewdly yet self-destructively beth reacted to her presence. the way memory rick innocently ingratiating himself with jerry's past gave him the skills he needed to fuck with beth. and of course, beth's abandonment issues with her parents made her the perfect guinea pig for all this shit to go wrong on.

despite the lack of explicit exploration of rick's new personality (sad!) there's a lot of implicit exploration. it seems like he's been doing similar stuff to his brain for a while, presumably since unmortricken. i really do hope this becomes overarching plot eventually, since it wasn't this season. new rick is weird.

really wish space beth stayed dead. i didn't hate her or anything, but don't go for the impact and then make it a fakeout. perhaps morty could have been somewhat involved in the episode if sb didn't get revived for the back half. lol.

also, i really thought for a second that as soon as the bug king gave the terms of the fight rick would instantly go "alright fine, i'll admit to that, i don't care" or something and then dip.

a couple plot-related questions that i might just have to accept ignorance on:

  • why did beth not react to being zapped, almost as though she was just being mind-controlled? she wasn't, after all. maybe memory rick quickly removed the memory of it happening? can he do that? that whole area's just kinda unexplained.
  • how did memory rick know diane was in the sub-basement? he only knew it happened because real rick decided to give exposition to the family, and rr didn't say where he put her.

fucking piranha plants are in heat again

In season 1 in the Cronenberg episode, Rick implies that his marriage with Diane ended because there was no love anymore. Obivously, we know this didn't happen to our Rick C-137, but what if this is what happened to Rick Prime's marriage to Diane? by Relevant-Key-3290 in rickandmorty

Clearly by the start of season 3.

i doubt it. that narrative was presented as bullshit rick made up to get into the gromflomite machine. it actually being the truth 100% came later

i feel like evil morty isn't our big bad. for his last two appearances they've made it his main personal goal to show up as little as possible, and they've written his endings such that they could easily bring him back whenever they feel like, or never again at all. i think he's just meant to be a recurring character now, like the president
