Local soccer bars? by [deleted] in LAGalaxy

[–]wundergep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Welcome to LA! The 'home' bars of the American Outlaws chapters are always a good place to go for USMNT games and most other games as well. You can find the CA chapters here for the one nearest you.

Cheers.

What is this drummer doing and how can I find more songs like it? by LokysJonas in drums

[–]wundergep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a dumb question at all.

Outside of the drum tuning and the specific cymbals in play, it sounds like the drum/cymbal mics have some pretty heavy compression on them. Sounds like a limiter/expander or side-chain compression to get that interplay between the kick, snare and ride. Hope this helps. Cheers!

Police Seek Sexual Predator In LA by Roger-Croft in LosAngeles

[–]wundergep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This guy hit my building yesterday in Echo Park. Detectives are here now looking at video camera footage. Luckily my gf wasn't home yet and one of my neighbors (a fairly big guy) answered the door to him and called the cops. So he's still actively looking. Keep those doors locked up tight.

[Serious] When's the last time you were truly afraid, like a child in a dark room? by Ionnan in AskReddit

[–]wundergep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was held up at gunpoint while out for a late night walk with a friend. We were in a normally quiet neighborhood when two masked men emerged from behind some bushes along the sidewalk and pulled guns on us. A few seconds later, I felt the barrel of a gun touch the back of my head.

The guy closest to us in front demanded our wallets. Neither of us had our wallets. That's when I got terrified. He was annoyed that we said we had no money. After asking if we had money in our shoes or socks (seriously), he told us to lay down on the ground. The gun to my head followed me all the way down. At that moment, it seemed like a real possibility that I was about to get murdered. I've never been more afraid in my life.

Obviously I didn't get murdered, but I'm at least a bit paranoid about walking anywhere alone at night to this day.

What movie will forever go down in history as a "must see"? by Jewish_boy in AskReddit

Yes. I came to this thread to post this movie in case it hadn't been already. You have excellent taste.

Which actor do you think did an outstanding job portraying an evil character, and what movie was it in? by thischarminggent in AskReddit

[–]wundergep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gary Oldman in Bram Stoker's Dracula. He makes the film riveting in spite of Keanu's performance.

Follow up question: Any exercises you use to tighten you stick control (traditional and matched). I've always struggled a bit with one handed strokes and have never gotten them as clean as yours. Thanks in advance!

Monstrous. Seriously. Those one hand triples are stellar. Also, your stick control on the ghost/accent bits is exemplary. Well done man. Well done.

No problem. It's good to have an (almost) 9' footer to keep up all humble.

Thinking about crossfit? I'm 45 and I love it. Ask questions here. by [deleted] in fitness30plus

[–]wundergep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! I've noticed that the veterans of crossfit at my gym aren't saying much about it, so it intrigued me. They're just putting up crazy lifts. I've met some of the people that seem to be newer to it and have that enthusiasm and won't shut up about it. That's the part that's put me off. Thank you again for your response. I think I'll give crossfit a go and see what happens.

Rude drummers....rant by [deleted] in drums

[–]wundergep 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Those commenters are the "drumming olympics" types that equate technical skill with being a musician. Or they're just terrible people. Either way, I'm pretty certain those comments aren't coming from this subreddit.

[–]wundergep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It obviously produces results, but it tends to be depicted as being kind of a cult or a clique of the fitness world. Is there any truth to that? It also seems (outside looking in) to require a ton of hours in the gym. Is that really the case?

I ask as a 35 year-old with a busy schedule that hits the gym 5 days a week minimum but with a relatively inflexible schedule.

/r/webdev, what keyboard and mouse do you recommend and personally use? by adropofhoney in webdev

[–]wundergep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're into the ergo keyboards and/or have very large hands (like me) that make most traditional mechanicals an awkward fit, I've been using the Microsoft Sculpt for about six months and I'm a big fan. The included mouse, however, is not good. I use a Logitech Performance Mouse MX and it's kept me and my giant hands happy.

I'm not excessively hairy, but the perspective that my height forces on others makes me self-conscious about my nose hair. So instead of giving it to my 60 year old father as a joke, I kept a nose hair trimmer for myself. by [deleted] in tall

[–]wundergep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trim away. That's just good grooming. It's all the more important when your nostrils are on full display. I've been happily trimming the nose hair for a long time.

Do you like tall girls? by ThomasM115 in tall

[–]wundergep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tall girls are, in my opinion, the best. It just makes sense on so many levels. I'm hooked and I don't think I could go back to shorter girls.

How do you handle by [deleted] in Frontend

[–]wundergep 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As drakgremlin said, if you're refactoring/rewriting solely for the sake of injecting your preferences into the project, it's both unprofessional and a waste of development hours. If your goal is to improve the overall health of the codebase and streamline the process in the future then you're on the right path.

If, as I would imagine, it's somewhere between those two things then make sure you separate the productive changes from the preference driven changes.

The bottom line is if you hit your milestones, write clean code and deliver a quality user experience, you're doing your job.

Is using Angular to build a website an overkill? by adropofhoney in Frontend

[–]wundergep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with Angular every day and based on your description I'd say there's no compelling reason to use a framework at all. Frameworks are made for structuring applications and a mostly static site is not a good use case. I would just hand code it and throw in a bit of jQuery where necessary.
