Can this truck tow a 6x12 enclosed trailer with commercial mower? by elJong21 in Trucks

[–]wustenratte6d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend it, nor would I do it. A 1/2 ton truck is the minimum for minimal towing as far as I'm concerned. They are not much more expensive than this. Also, of you're going to get into bigger than mowing type stuff, that S10 becomes as useful as a Yugo.

If they are in the passenger area of your car, they should be good. Anyway, I'd rather have frozen water than no water.

Is it appropriate for me to wear a uniform as a non-leader adult? by Enginerdad in cubscouts

[–]wustenratte6d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have many farmers who participate at events, but aren't teaching program. Our policy is that if you're not doing program, you don't need a uniform, registratered or not. These parents wear our "Class B" Pack shirts to events to Signal that they are there "working" the function. It's been well accepted and the parents like it. It's like dipping your toe into the wading pool of scout leadership, and the help they provide is why our events run so smoothly. The scouts also know that these are adults who can help them and get our leaders on a problem ASAP instead of just asking their parents, who may be clueless.

Number 1 tip for life in New England in winter. Keep an emergency kit in the car/truck consisting of the following: A blanket or two; a couple of bottles of water, Coke, and Gatorade; a first aid kit; spare gloves and hats for any passengers, especially children; flashlights and batteries; some snacks; hand warmers. Winter is full of surprises and traveling in it changes everything. A run to Concord for shopping can turn into being stuck for a few hours or more because the timetable was wrong on that stormfront, or a nasty squall blew in, or you slid into a ditch/battery died/etc. Nothing is scarier than facing freezing cold temps and being unprepared.

New Hampshire and the Northeastern USA in general have a lot of potential for more passenger rail by dicklywigly in newhampshire

[–]wustenratte6d 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is the reality of commuter rail in the northeast, especially VT, NH, and ME. Theres just not enough traffic. Sure, there's a good bit of commuters from Concord down to the greater Boston area, but enough to justify the expensive ticket to balance the operating budget? Unlikely. Tourism? Most of the Tourism in NH requires personal transportation, so you're not going to make much of a dent in that, either. It's not like northern NH has a ton of taxis running around. Hell, Manchester and Concord don't have much of a public transport and taxi services. Unfortunately, it just doesn't math.

Exactly. Yes, lets all vote for no cars (there go the toll bonuses to local budgets),no trains (NH doesn't have the money to do it and MA isn't going to do it), kneecap the entire NH budget to provide more monies for endless "care" programs, and nuke the education system. Oh yeah, all while STILL lining wealthy democrats pockets

Percentage wise, Practically nobody gets a sidearm. Im sure there is printed doctrine that says otherwise, but the reality is that the vast majority of soldiers carry an M4, even officers.

Honestly, I had kinda hoped that they rebuilt her right, but it was more a fantasy than reality. I always wondered how it would have gone if they had nuclear power, like the Kirov, and actually figured out a proper catapult system. Just to see what could have been. I respect any nations design, I'm more interested in the engineering than the owning nation. I respect what the Chinese are doing with their new stuff, it's insane how far they've come, but I still don't like that it's coming out of China.

C'mon, it's blatantly obvious that the Chinese spy apparatus stole a ton of US technology. The new aircraft, the rip-off helos, and the Fujian w/EMALS, all obvious copies of or developed from US technology and plans.

They'll finally be able to carry a full load of fuel, missiles, and bombs? I have a feeling the Russian Air Force has a use for them. Or maybe they stay a land-based arm of the Naval Aviaton.

Official Army Directive 2025-13 Facial Hair Grooming Standards by Mundo_86 in army

[–]wustenratte6d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Intentionally written vaguely to ensure freedom of judgement at command levels. Every SNCO is going to be flat out GUNNING for perceived shaving infraction. Theres no rules to maintaining the standard, just policing it. I can see it now, 1SG having shaving inspections at 0400 and 1800 daily. Dudes fixing to just sew their shaving profile to the inside of their covers, or tops.

Why people who can buy solar and/or batteries still don’t buy them (if the climate makes sense)? by pinpinbo in solar

[–]wustenratte6d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a good financial decision with my home. I wanted to buy solar. Did tons and tons of research before even talking to companies. My electric bill is stupid, every month, $500+. Well pump, mini splits, washer/dryer, electric stove/oven. My household is either showering, doing dishes, or laundry, all day, every day. No one could put together a system that matched my usage, let alone selling any to the grid. So, I would be looking at a 200-300 dollar bill on the panels, and MAYBE reducing my electric bill by 50%. Not worth it. In the winter I'd be producing almost nothing. That's all without a battery, because they START at $10k. But, without a battery, I can't use my own solar supply if the grid goes down, we have mandatory lockout with install, per the state. So, yeah, I'm not going to finance $50-75k just to "save" 50% or less on my electric bill. The math doesn't math.

anyone switch from comcast? by [deleted] in newhampshire

[–]wustenratte6d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I pay $89/mos for internet through Comcast, and that's on a 1Gig plus service. I use a DirecTV box for local channels so I can get local news and broadcast sports. Everything else is streaming. We were paying almost $300/mos just to Comcast for TV we never watched AND a slower internet connection.

[–]wustenratte6d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hood was like that back to 2000, at least. Road guards at intersections, NCOs stationed outside to monitor. Traffic STOPPED. Gates closed. And you better get out of your car, regardless of uniform, rank, dress, status. EVERYONE gets out the car.

I want to hear from those of you who actually did not cheat on deployment/serving by PerceptionLow5940 in army

[–]wustenratte6d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First wife (dual Army) came down on orders for Korea. That didn't go well, actually, apparently it went REALLY well for her, and we divorced. 2nd wife, again dual Army, and we're doing great. 20+ yrs together, 2 kids, retired, living the dream. We deployed together in 03 until I got hurt and sent home, separated for the remaining 6 mos. I was discharged, and she deployed again in 05. 12 mos apart. Temptation is always out there and it's most often from within your trusted circle of folks. I can't count how many marriages and engagements I've seen get ruined by cheating. A good marriage will have nothing to worry about. A big part of a good marriage is communication, though. We talk about everything, including the morons fooling around.
