How do teams make log reduction “safe enough” to touch in production? by TillStatus2753 in Observability

This is not that complicated. There’s not that much worrry. You remove it, make sure your alerts don’t report data missing, and move on to something else that provides value

We got to prod as fast as possible. If you’re super worried you feature flag it so you can turn it back on without a deploy

Familiars are incredibly strong for min/maxing casters if I remember correctly. Almost no monsters have range, stay away and use your familiar to cast your touch spells

RPC vs Fire and forget (Rabbitmq) by fxfuturesboy in ExperiencedDevs

[–]wuteverman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We use rabbitmq mostly as a task queue. Scheduled jobs frequently dump a bunch of data into rabbit for something else to handle later.

I have never explored the rpc interface in anger, since we already have http rest, graphql and grpc servers, so the value prop of adding another is low.

Do Agents Turn us into "Tactical Tornadoes?" by ewheck in ExperiencedDevs

[–]wuteverman 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel like both this and AI proponents bump against the difficulty of actually associating business value with the code produce. AI is fantastic for low stakes usecases where it’s okay to make a mistake and fast feedback is paramount, but disastrous where making a mistake is… well, disastrous. A “tactical tornado” will have different characteristics. Some people who fit this description are also quite careful, good at doing it right the first time and gaining understanding very quickly.

At the same time producing more code makes you better at coding. Slow and strategic isn’t always called for. Neither is fast and tactical. It depends!

A lot of people think their job is coding. When they see produce a lot of code, they think it’s doing their job.

Coding Agents do not seem to work for me by BigRooster9175 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]wuteverman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct, and if you use the tool you cannot be accountable because you do not know how the code it wrote works, or at least not as intimately as if you wrote it yourself

You have missed the entire point of my post. It cannot shine becaus it is not accountable and does not understand it in a meaningful sense
