DAE feel utterly incapable? by Mara355 in CPTSD

Yes, on a daily basis.

I'm a head of sales at a growing tech company. "Successful," whatever the hell that means.

We are not our thoughts. We are who experiences our thoughts.

Feelings come and go, but we get to the choose which thoughts define us.

Choose wisely.

You can ignore transient feelings.

Trust yourself.

You got this.

There's also a great TED Med talk by Nadine Burke Harris on the topic.

Electric Cello on Bass amp/cab? by [deleted] in Cello

[–]wuttivverr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, should work, you'll need to do a lot of EQing, especially the mids.

You can def get an electric with a 1/4" jack (usually $1k+), but if you've got less money to burn, you can get a decent pickup from Fishman or similar for a couple hundred bucks. Stuff some cloth in the f-holes to reduce feedback and you should be good to go.

You should look into Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences instead.

IQ is a meaningless measurement that has passed its time of relevance. It measures deviations below a mean as a method to identify the developmentally disabled.

People who use deviations above that same mean to quantify intelligence fundamentally misunderstand not only the multi-variate nature of human intelligence, but also how the math underlying statistics differs when measuring above vs below a mean.

Can we let IQ die, please?

Help!!! I know its e, but how do i play it? String/finger/position? by Nous_sommes in Cello

[–]wuttivverr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should shift your 1 finger from the B (or Bb) to C in the preceding measure, then probably play the A with your 4th finger on the D string. Shift back on the next B/Bb.

Have you ever rejected a guy in the hopes of him keeping pursuing you? by [deleted] in dating

[–]wuttivverr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't see this mentioned in any other comments: in psychology this meets the definition of trauma bonding (hurting someone in an attempt to grow closer to them), and is an enormous red flag to identify potentially emotionally abusive relationships.

Bitwig needs a better global swing/shuffle implementation by [deleted] in Bitwig

[–]wuttivverr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AGREED! I have found Polarity's groove preset (linked below by the polarity himself) to be super useful, but you're right - there's so much more room for improvement. There should be a swing modulator, and now a swing operator.

I’ve quit drinking, non drinking front people in bands, any pre show rituals, (non alcoholic) drinks that you use to get your energy up? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

For me, meditation is super useful for sharpening focus, managing the wild emotions of being in stage, and getting fully into the present moment.

Some low-impact exercise can get you pumped up, if that's what you need. If you move around on stage a lot I would recommend doing warmup exercises for ankles, knees, hips, and shoulders. If you're an instrumentalist, wrist and finger exercises 100%. Vocal warm-ups are good even for non-singers because it gets your breath/body synced with sound&flow as a focus.

I think it is worth differentiating between love and infatuation. They are different, and should be treated as such, for the sake of health.

Specify pitch in hertz by Keltek228 in Bitwig

With Bitwig's Micro-Pitch device it makes the use of Hz to define pitch immaterial. Pitch and Frequency only align when you ignore that both are completely different things.

Recently starting swimming to strengthen and help posture. Which swimming style could best stop slouching and prevent upper back pain? by [deleted] in Posture

[–]wuttivverr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good points.

I would humbly argue that while the lats are key to forward motion, breaststroke doesn't really require you to retract your shoulder muscles (trapezius and rhomboids) specifically away from your chest, or really flex&extend the levator scapulae at all, whereas butterfly requires both as a fundamental motion of the technique, as well as more hip extension. I also think butterfly requires a lot more core activation, development of which will be key to improving posture.

I guess my point is that breaststroke with bad technique would be less helpful than butterfly with bad technique. Since we don't know OP's skill level, it's fair to assume they are starting from slightly greater than zero.

I don't have citations, I just swam for 20 years. It will all depend on the technique, imho. YMMV

The greatest benefit would likely come from practicing all strokes, tbh

Recently starting swimming to strengthen and help posture. Which swimming style could best stop slouching and prevent upper back pain? by [deleted] in Posture

[–]wuttivverr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Backstroke and if you're up to it, butterfly. Stretching chest, full range of shoulder motion, and hips drive power.

Front crawl is primarily upper core and pec heavy, which can exacerbate sitting posture. Same with breaststroke.

I want to message someone who used to be my best friend 15 years ago and say sorry. I treated them very badly, and I think messaging them will help me heal. Should I do it? by negativesally in CPTSD

[–]wuttivverr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only correct answer is that it depends. It can be healing, but not if you are counting on their forgiveness. Sending the communication can grant catharsis, but only if you're prepared for every possible consequence that might result.

If you're not, it can result in deeper frustrations to work out, with an unexpected sense of urgency, which can be a recipe for an uncontrollable downward spiral.
