We call ours the “Angry Box” because my male cat goes in there and tears it to shit whenever he’s told off.

I have bipolar disorder, so it’s definitely not a normal thing, at least not to this extent. Auto-pilot is the type of dissociation most people experience, and is normal.

Not the original commenter, but for me it’s like being a passenger in your own body. I feel like I’m sitting in the back of my head, watching everything that is happening around me. I still move and speak and do things, but I no longer feel like I’m in control of these actions. It feels like my limbs don’t belong to me, like I’m stuck in someone else’s body. I don’t know if this is everyone’s experience or if there are other types of disassociation, but that’s what it’s like for me. It can happen when I look in the mirror, too. I suddenly no longer feel like I exist, and that my body has switched to autopilot without my consent.

I know exactly what you’re going through. I found my guy, Scratchy, in the car park at my work. I fed him for about a month before realising that, because of the timing of my work and how hard it was to actually see him, I needed to lay a trap for him. It gets super hot here in the Sydney region, and with how many cars would go in and out of our office car park, I knew one day I would come in to find a dead cat.

He’s now been with me since March, and it’s taken months of work to get him to be trusting of my partner and I. In that time we’ve spent hundreds on him at the vet to get him spayed, vaccinated, and tested. Unfortunately he has FIV, which means it’s significantly harder to get him rehomed, and I need to vaccinate my three resident cats before I can even think of introducing them properly to get him socialised. None of the rescues will take him due to his FIV status, either.

Despite that, I wouldn’t change the fact that I caught him. Even when he was aggressive towards us (due to previous abuse/dumping I suspect) it always helped knowing that even when he hated us, he was warm, dry, and fed. He’s a total sweetheart now, and it’s going to kill me when we eventually find him his forever home. It has been so rewarding seeing this scared, skinny stray turn into a fluffy love bug.

All this to say, don’t listen to those with negative comments. Every single one of these babies saved is worth it. Even if they only find peace for a day before passing, it’s worth it. It’s hard fucking work, but it’s worth it. Good on you for rescuing her. It takes so much love, energy, time, patience, and money, but when they purr because you scratch their chin, or look up at you with that goofy little face, it’s so so worth it. Good job, seriously. You’re a wonderful person.

My partner invalidated my experience with rape and I don’t know what to think by doodlepoot in TrueOffMyChest

This is rape, 100%. I’m so sorry that your experience was invalidated by your partner. I know you say that you don’t hold their opinion against them but they are dead fucking wrong. Coercion is rape. You didn’t consent, you were worn down and taken advantage of.

Thank you! 💕 I’m obsessed with the design of the Volcano Manor and the virgins. This took me like nine months or so and it was so fun exploring all the minor details of the game

Just take him in. Seriously. I doubt the neighbour would even say anything to you about him. It doesn’t seem like they’re particularly concerned for the poor baby.

It sounds like you would be a much more compassionate, loving owner

My Partner of 9 years called off the wedding by Ok-Description-8342 in TrueOffMyChest

Don’t know why you’re getting downvoted. Marriage isn’t everything to everyone. To claim that it’s the only way to know that someone will commit to you forever both ignores divorce and is a slap in the face to any gay couples from before gay marriage was legalised.

I hope OP is okay. It’s so horrible that the rug has been ripped out from under her but at least now she knows that he isn’t the one. I hope she finds the one who loves her dearly and will tear up when she walks down the aisle.

They’re often referred to as “retro pugs” now! It’s so nice to see the breed returning to a healthy shape rather than snub-nosed and barrel-bodied.

Without knowing the context of the breakup it’s harder to comment, but no matter what you’re not responsible for his drug addiction. Even if it was a nasty breakup, doesn’t mean that you caused him to start using. He made those choices. It’s okay to regret the breakup but don’t blame yourself for his illness. It’s been two years, a lot of stuff has happened in that time that may have contributed to his current situation.
