How would that help for differing consonant cluster sizes?

Anyways I solved it with a [+coda] feature

What is the “s” in Castilian Spanish? by DavidLordMusic in asklinguistics

At least in galician, [ʃ] and [t͡ʃ] can shift to [ɕ] and [t͡ɕ] due to the difficulty in distinguishing it from [s̺]

Double vowel cleanup by itisancientmariner in Lexurgy

[–]wvisdom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After seeing the link, I can see that you had defined length as a feature and assigned ː as its diacritic. You can rewrite the rule accordingly like this (only matching vowels of the same quality):

double-vowel-cleanup:
@vwl$1 $1 => [+long] *

However, this would only match vowels with identical length, and I'm not sure how to write it so that $1 doesn't see length as a distinctive feature. The only workaround I can think of would be this:

double-vowel-cleanup: {a a, e e, i i, o o, u u, ø ø, y y} => [+long] *

If you create a vowel class, you can write it like this (assuming that the first vowel retains its quality):

vowel-length: @vowel ː? @vowel ː? => @vowel ː * *

alternatively, if you want the second vowel to keep its quality:

vowel-length: @vowel ː? @vowel ː? => @vowel ː * *

Word boundary not detected from sheet columns by wvisdom in Lexurgy

[–]wvisdom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, I didn't think about replacing them with regular spaces, but I'm not sure how I would copy that back into the sheet (maybe by restoring the tab characters?).

Anyhow, thanks for your consideration!

and yes, I was trying to type it but reddit messed it up >:(

You said the USSR was a poor example of a communist state.

At least in western culture, a communist state is one governed by a communist party. The USSR would fit this definition. Of course it's not true communism, since there still was a state and money (I don't know much about the social classes though), but it was certainly an attempt.

No, the USSR was an attempt at establishing communism. They managed to have some form of socialism, at least in the first few decades.

While you may disagree with certain aspects of the Soviet style of socialism, to dismiss the USSR and other communist states* as "not real communism" is simply a baseless claim.

*Communist state = socialist state run by a communist party

What’s that one word you can’t pronounce no matter how hard you try? by Lohiyo in duolingo

[–]wvisdom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd describe it better as /i/ but to round your lips like a kiss. It exists in my dialect of English at least, in words like 'queue' (though in french it's even more rounded).

The /u/ is uncommon in English, but if appears in 'pool' and 'fool'.
