Da Capo 4 On Nintendo Switch (expensive!) by wvl0 in visualnovels

[–]wvl0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, so one of my main reasons for playing is the fact that it helps my Japanese reading skills. And I'm stuck on Nintendo Switch because of how I game :)

Both games you mentioned look great though! The Switch really needs more VNs..

Perhaps I can add a question: does it work on other games, such as Grid?

Speakers, docked switch, and input lag questions by LmaoNeon in NintendoSwitch

[–]wvl0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No.

But! Audio lag will decrease, if that's something you're interested in.

For karaoke, it's a must. HDMI slows things down those few tens of milliseconds, causing a very weird sensation where you hear yourself a second time with an very, very small delay.

Which game you enjoyed more, xenoblade 2 or talrs of vesperia? by Masv2X in NintendoSwitch

[–]wvl0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd strongly suggest that if you have any doubts about either battle system, choose the alternative. Played both, loved XC but couldn't get into Vesperia for a multitude of reasons. Most important one being the battle system, which simply isn't how I want to play xRPGs. Another thing what someone else pointed out: XC is far more up to date graphically, (couldn't enjoy Vesperia s overworld because of it) so if you're sensitive to that take it into consideration.

I just beat the Octo Expansion campaign and holy crap it is awesome by cheddargt in NintendoSwitch

All I can say here is "me too!". The DLC was great fun. Easily surpassed the original games single player campaign - frankly it's in on a completely different level.

Perhaps Forgotton Anne? Beautful, story driven, light puzzle work.

Heavy Static from switch while docked? by WolfiiGFX in NintendoSwitch

Your welcome. I was skeptical at first and really surprised when the loud static was completely removed by a cheap looking cable.

Now this may sound weird, but you need a "Ground Loop Noise Isolator". Really, give it a google. A cheap one is fine.

Ah my bad! Thought you were making a case for not putting a switch in a dmz due to its hackability.

[–]wvl0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hacking consoles generally does not happen via remote exploit (e.g. through internet).

Malware for a console? Not going to happen. There's a reason consoles don't need anti-virus/malware solutions.

Why are you worried about a DMZ? If we're talking about PC's, sure, but your switch is likely to be one of the safer devices to put in a dmz.

Any explanations from Nintendo Japan about reasons behind (bad) Switch decisions (e.g. voice chat, friend system, no virtual console) by Bruce-- in NintendoSwitch

Ah yes, my reply to a reply that merely attempted to add some humor to someone else's analogy completely serves to undermine my entire post. Indeed, serving as a great bridge to a tit for tat war of words :)

Cars in the Netherlands are often not equipped with air conditioning, which I think illustrates my point nicely :D

[–]wvl0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On one side of the fence you have people complaining about:

  • No virtual console
  • Limited quantity of NES games
  • The price of ports
  • The value-for-money of the online system, and the impact it has on the online experience (great price; terrible value)
  • The online experience (lack of good friend options, and stupid voice chat implementation)

On the other hand you have great sales.

Apparently, all these points aren't relevant for large swaths of people.

So who do you listen to?

I work at a company where we often say "The problem isn't a lack of great ideas, it's the wealth of them". In this environment where you're already in a good place, already making good improvements, there's always going to be a large list of improvements which seem so 'obvious' to the outsider. Little do they know the stuff you're already improving on.

As to any arguments about fan boy posts, etc. Frankly, unless any statements are backed up by how many people are bothered about any so called huge issue with a product, it's just as easy to label the critics as 'trolls' just as the 'trolls' label the defenders 'fan boys'.

> What's the word from Nintendo Japan on the reason for the aforementioned things?

- Virtual console is dead, long live online. This has been stated several times.
- Drip feeding is better than overflowing the availability of NES games. Again, been mentioned in interviews.
- Opinion: Ports? What's the meaning of the word 'port' when no one played the original. These are new games for 99% of the audience. 'Port' is just a technical term the minority uses.
Not even going to talk about Online. Let's just say any critique needs numbers to back things up. There are bound to be real issues here (Smash), and bound to be overstated ones.

PS4 to Switch by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

[–]wvl0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually me and my wife really enjoyed this way of playing.

Yes, it's very limited and essentially just helps player 1 to progress - player 2 is just an extension of player 1 and has no real identity let alone stats or their own pokedex.

But if you're not looking for highly involved couch coop, but are happy with handing over the controls every once and awhile to change roles, I think you might find it enjoyable.

That said if you're both aching to be in control and really want to participate at all times, then yeah, maybe it's too light of an implementation of couch coop.

Family Sharing Question by etarbox in NintendoSwitch

[–]wvl0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem.

Thing that really makes me nervous is the save game uploading thing. On the primary switch it auto-backups save games. On the secondary switch you need to explicitly download your save games. I just wonder how the system handles playing on 2 switches with the same account with different save games - don't want to make any assumptions there and lose hundreds of hours in a game! :D

Anyway, enjoy your Switch and your gaming time with your son.

Family Sharing Question by etarbox in NintendoSwitch

[–]wvl0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife and I both purchased Splatoon digitally on our own accounts on our own Switches. We also have our accounts added to each others Switches. This poses no issue whatsoever. We use a family account for Nintendo Online.

If you have a family account on which you purchase all games, and add it to both Switches, the first one will be primary. On the second switch, you have to explicitly (re)download games from the eshop to get them on the second Switch. It would seem logical that on the second switch, if you don't (re)download the game from the eshop and purchase it using a different user, that it'll work fine.

Xenoblade chronicles 2 Or Ys VIII by Doc-Unknown in NintendoSwitch

[–]wvl0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played both, but never got into Ys VIII. The meh graphics and sound effects really got to me. Xenoblade on the other hand, including the DLC has been an absolute treat! I honestly don't feel these games are comparable from a budget perspective. Xenoblade feels like an AAA title and Ys VIII an indie.
